Asians are crazy for being cheap as hell. $5.00 min order for Credit Cards, no soap in the bathroom, very little shrimp in the shrimp fried rice.
I primarily eat Asian food and have never had this happen.

I went to Gen this time. Nice hip decor. fast service. The food was just ok. Over an hour wait. Ive had better korean bbq.
Yeah, imagine the wait if there wasn't a time limit. The last time I was there, they quoted an 1h45m as the wait time, WTF.

If we're talking sushi, then I have to agree buffet Is a no go. Authentic sushi fish is crazy expensive.
Have you tried Sushi Asahi in Corona or Riverside? It's well worth the $23, IMO, and the only thing I get is nigiri sushi. The drawback is they have a one-hour time limit, but I tend to stay for an hour and fifteen and have never been asked to leave.

I like Gen.

Screw Manna. My jujitsu class went there for our end of year dinner and they cut us off while we were eating saying that we were ordering too much.

Glad their spot at the Westfield Mall went out of business.

Gen has a 2 hour limit as well.
oo-kook is still time limit free. \o/

For me time limit is fine if I can get food during that time. Manna would take longer and longer to bring out our meat per order and put less and less meat each time until when we ordered we got 1 piece on a plate.

Me and a friend went to a buffet once..I had 2 plates and went out to the car to have a smoke while my buddy finished up. 2 hours later I'm still waiting in the car ..got paranoid thinking he might of died in there so I went back in--- he was going up for dessert.

Never been so embarrassed in my life...i turned around and shrugged at the employees in the restaurant.

I went to an AYCE shabu place in Little Tokyo that did something similar - first plate was great quality beef. By the time the 8th plate came around, the meat was 80% fat.

DON'T ADVERTISE AYCE IF YOU CAN'T DELIVER.

Personally, I don't think I'd eat sushi from a place where it only costs $7 for their buffet.

It is a rice ball with veggies & cream cheese and a speck of ....well it rally doesn't matter as it is a speck. I did not say it was great sushi. ( Place by me gives 18 pieces for $12, Now that it is good, I want more. Usually get 2 orders. {blush}

I had Korean BBQ tonight so I timed our dinner. Four of us ate off regular menu at Kang Hodong BBQ place rather than AYCE. Each $110 beef combo plater took an hour to cook and eat. I stopped after the second beef combo plate because I didn't want to stay and eat for another hour. So 2 hour limit is too short for Korean BBQ buffet since you have to wait for meat refill. Not to mention you're getting poor quality meats in that 2 hour window. It's better to pay little more and order from the regular menu.

Ahh the Sunday evenings after softball all you can eat baby back ribs salad and beer at Beefsteak Charlies. We used to bring the shrimp bowl to our table.

AYCE shrimp, baby back ribs and free beer/wine/sangria refills, man, Beefsteak Charlies was freaking awesome back in the day. I was sorry to see them go under.

That's funny because it was Koreans who caused a McDonald's in one city (and other businesses have reported the same grievance with Koreans) to implement a time-limit on how long people can sit and occupy seats because the old Koreans would come to McDonald's and either order something like a coffee (or nothing at all) and sit there chatting, reading papers, or playing games for HOURS as if they were at a senior center or something. Some reportedly brought their own lunch.

This is about fatties ("heavy-set", "big-boned" people) overstaying their welcome.

Not necessarily. Living in an area with tons of different buffet options, usually what happens is a family/group of 10 or more comes in about 30 minutes before a meal changeover (b'fast/lunch or lunch/dinner). Part of the group immediately eats and then gets up and leaves (like, 15 minutes or so, tops). The rest of the group then eats the first meal, takes their time and chats. They'll often be there for an hour or two. Then the part of the group that ate and left comes back, sits down and eats the second meal while the other part of the group leaves for a couple of hours. They come back, eat, etc.

You see this most often at casino buffets or places in entertainment districts. They're not asked to leave because (1) casino buffets generally have tons of seating and (2) it really is a cultural thing and the casino staff are trained to not be insensitive.
