Konica Minolta said its new camera will retail for about 100,000 yen ($890) in Japan for the body only. Canon, Nikon, Pentax Corp. and Olympus Corp. have already introduced digital SLRs in that price range.

and I believe some of Canon's higher-end DSLRs can use both CF and SD. I know there's at least one camera that can do that...

EDIT: and you can buy and SD-->CF adaptor to use SD cards in CF-only cameras, as well.

Don't see why anyone would choose this over Nikon or Canon as the lens selection is a lot more limited. I could be wrong about that but I doubt it.

a) you already have an investment in a film KM system. all you need is the body

b ) all other things being equal, this might be cheaper in the long run if you had planned on investing in IS glass for another system. The IS here is *in the camera*, so every lens you buy is autmatically image stabilized 🙂

I believe CF has a speed edge too, but I might be wrong. Personally, the gargantuan cards don't appeal to me much - the whole "all my eggs in one basket" thing. Until the files start getting considerably larger, I think I'll stick with 512MB and 1GB cards.

Then again, I'm not shooting for a living, so switching cards and possibly missing something doesn't bother me too much, either.

I guess my actual concern is, do camera using CF still slow? There was a huge difference when i moved to SD, but this was years ago so i don't know if the technology has caught up.

This depends on the card you use, and possibly the camera. I'm not sure of the exact differences between a cardslot on an SLR camera vs. one on a point-and-shoot, but the difference between a high-speed card (say a Sandisk Ultra or Extreme) vs. a standard - and cheaper - 4x or so card can be quite noticeable. I've tested it myself.

I love the idea of using larger lcd's but they really have to start increasing the pixel count. Otherwise, it just doesn't seem like a very attractive feature to me.
