There, there. *pats head* Everyone here is stupid except for you.

Or maybe we're all PART OF A SECRET ILLUMINATI CONSPIRACY GROUP TRYING TO STIFLE YOUR THOUGHTS!

EXCEPT WE'RE ALREADY DEAD! WE'RE JUST AI.

AND YOUR PROSTHETIC RIGHT ARM IS STARTING TO CONTROL YOUR MIND!

BUT YOU DID IT ON PURPOSE! NANOMACHINES!

OH NO BUT HERE COMES YOUR CLONE TO SAVE THE DAY. HE'S THE SAME AS YOU EXCEPT HE HAS CHRISTIAN BALE'S TERRIBLE BATMAN VOICE.

Quick, send some fat guy on roller blades to stop him!

Pressing caps lock doesn't make your argument look better.

If that's all you got from it you didn't pay attention enough.

Seriously people nanomachines are not even the main element of the game but that's all you can remember.

I wouldn't even mind the nanomachines that much if it wasn't used as plot armor time and time again. The rest of the storyline is barely memorable because of how it was presented... I feel like the only one out of the series that was done fairly well storywise (that serves to tie up loose ends and actually answer questions in a rational way) was snake eater.

The gameplay is top notch. The game mechanics is top notch. The story for the "present" day mgs is ridiculous and silly.

Time and time again I see MGS fans falling back to the "you just don't understand the story well enough because you didn't pay attention" argument and never trying to present the story in a coherent fashion. Maybe they don't understand the story themselves? :colbert:

The argument fans of the series use is true. Everyone brings up nanomachines but that's only a small portion. The search for the ultimate soldier through genetic cloning and childhood indoctrination and the patriots controlling freedom of speech behind the scenes but outed to be just a computer system put in place as a scapegoat for the ones who have the real influence, and the proxy wars involving multiple mercenary groups (think military contractors) being a clever disguise for rich politicians profiting monetarily from starting wars in 3rd world countries, and nuclear proliferation being major presented themes in the story. There is a lot of depth there that is often missed.

The problem is, around all of that we get a fat guy on rollerskates, dracula, and a cartooneqsue ninja with levels of emo that rival Hot Topic.

In many cases you get various characters who are victims of failed engineering, governmental experimentation, and born with genetic defects, or are otherwise victims of circumstance. Vamp was a victim of a church bombing in Romania and was impaled by a crucifix for 2 days before his rescue. To survive he fed on the blood of other victims. Later he was experimented on and obtained enhanced regeneration and pain tolerance. He was part of a nanomachine experiment at one point as well.

Again, complete nonsensical garbage. How about Psycho Mantis? Nanomachines let him read mines as well? Come on now.

If they had simply stuck with the idea of creating a super soldier through cloning and then moving on to nanomachines without a fat guy on rollerskates, a recycled ninja (first appearance was okay, but did they continue to need a ninja in every game?), a vampire, and a bunch of other silliness.

Copying a super soldier (Big Boss > Solid Snake) and the accompanying story was fine. Adding in a bunch of nonsense like a guy who can control bees is stupid. Furthering the idea of creating a super soldier with nanomachines is a logical step toward that goal, with increasing technology, but then they surrounded it with idiotic bosses.

And the next entry looks to be just as moronic. Some ghost rider looking shit on a horse in Cuba? This just screams the same over the top stuff I'd expect out of a FF game, not what should be a semi realistic stealth action game.

Whatever. There is zero point whatsoever telling you story if you don't want a story, you want a spoon fed happy ending. Screw it

So believe whatever you want and it's done. You don't get it and never will because you don't want to. People talk about dumbing down games and I was always against the usage of that term but it perfectly fits here.

You have just literally proven the prior complaint about MGS fans. If someone points out just how bad certain characters are, you respond with "zomg you don't understand it".

Removing characters that shoot bees from their bunghole, are vampires, or otherwise just fat crazy people on rollerskates doesn't dumb down the story. In fact, if all of the boss fights were with, for lack of a better term, regular soldiers (Ocelot, Big Boss, Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake, etc) the game would be a lot better. Kojima continues to throw in more and more stuff I'd expect to find in a FF game. It wouldn't surprise me if the next installment goes full Sephiroth. And then all the "true fans" will come in crying "but nanomachines makes it okay!"

LOL @ insecurity of being unable to cope with the fact that some people don't like the same stuff you like. Good grief. It's not because we "don't get it." We get it. The story is a freakin' amalgamation of Robocop + 1984 + Pick Your Favorite Dan Brown Novel. I'm still not impressed.
