Kodak DC280 for $149.95 or less@Staples B&M

I am a newbie and this is my first post so go easy please.

Last night I called Staples.com to inquire about the DC280 & they advised that were discontinuing this product and that it was only available at the B&M stores. I called my local Staples who advised they only had a demo left & since it was a demo would deduct 10% off the clearance price of $149.95. When I went there they had everything except for rechargeable batteries that were to be included and would let me have it for $99.95. Well I had the 20off100 Staples B&M coupon so the sales rep said that he would price it at $100.

$100-20 coupon+4.80tax= $84.80 for a camera that Cnet rated as having the best pictures of any camera reviewed to date. This camera sells on the net for $300+ & I have not seen a bad review on this camera. Your mileage may vary.

Bump for an excellent deal if you can find one. I had a DC280, and it takes GREAT photos. Good luck to those wanting one.

I have the Kodak DC280, I paid about $500 for it about 2 years ago and it's worth every penny.

It's a 2.1 Megapixel camera and is considered one of the best cameras made in terms of picture quality. If you have a good printer you can print 8x10 prints that are indistinguishable from real photos.

The DC280 is exactly the same camera as the Kodak DC3400 except for minor cosmetic changes. They are functionally identical. The DC3400 is still a top rated camera and sells for between $330 and $400.

The camera came bundled with either an 8, 20 or 32mb Compact Flash card and also came bundled with 4 AA NiMH batteries and a charger. The DC3400 comes with an 8mb card and no NiMH batteries or charger. If you can pick this camera up for $150 you are getting an absolute steal!

Bump! Great find!

It'd be better if you can scan the receipt and post it here. So the others can PM at Staples B&M with the receipt.

<< If I can find a scanner I will try & scan the receipt. >>

Please! I will be waiting. I cannot resist such a good deal. Thanks a lot!

Just checked my local staples and 4 other staples... theyve been outta these for a long time. Itll be hard to get it at this price b/c everyone will try to check if the other store has stock.

I've checked 3 staples stores already in my area. None of them have the camera in stock. I still have a few more to check but its not looking good. If anyone finds it in their staples, I'll paypal you the money for it + s&h if you could buy it for me =]

this would have been a sweet deal, but all sold out on the west coast.

the CSR on the phone told me he only saw 5 stores in the country that still have them, but they each have like only 1 in stock (meaning, it's a display model).

the city names were something like this:

Statesville
Newcastle
Bartaville
La Miranda
Granada

you lucky east coast people should try and snatch them up! 🙂

i think i'll look for the dc4800 now... 🙁

from the Kodak website:

<< All camera applications, except the Border Transfer Application, work when you use the serial interface. The camera USB interface does not function with WINDOWS 2000. >>

Darn..

Not true, I use my dc280 with win2k no problems... you just have to download the usb driver from the kodak website.

I've had a 280 for almost 2 yrs. It is my favorite camera of all time.
I am going to f/u on this just for friends. Thanks,
jv

Actually the successor to this camera (cant remember the model number, came out the
following year) was reviewed and they concluded that the color renditions were not as
good as the 280.
Damn nice find...

Agreed, the 280 is one kickin camera. The prints I have done at 4x6 are as good as my SLR. Beautiful. I haven't tried any blowups yet, but will probably give 8x10 a shot on my new Epson Photo printer.

dam it... all out in atlanta, ga +the srrounding states of alabama, tennessee, s.c., n.c., and florida... 🙁

I got one! On the off chance that they might have one, I called the Staples in Watauga, TX to see if they had a Kodak DC280 Zoom. They had one on clearance for $149.50! I told them to hold it and I'd be right over!

Got there, added some pens, used a $30 off $150 coupon, ended up paying $130 total! I was stoked!

Got home and opened it up. It looks like it used to be a demo unit, and the 8MB compact flash card was gone. ;-( But I called Kodak and told them it was missing the 8MB card *and they shipped it to me overnight express*!!! Talk about good customer service! 🙂 Not that I use it... I picked up the 80 MB Sandisk CF card from a much earlier thread for around $50 a month ago. 🙂

The camera takes great pictures! I'd call your local Staples and see if they have one if you want one.

Actually, kodak changed one thing within the lens that could cause a strange reflection to affect the pictures occasionally (or, that's what I heard). I have the DC3400, And I love it.

edit: regarding hork's costomer service story. Kodak's been great for me too. I dropped my DC3400, and broke the battery cover (basically I jsut broke the plastic latch). I called them up, and they sent me a replacement part free of charge. I had it in a couple days. They even knew it was entirely my fault that it was broken.
