I own the DC290, and my folks own the DC280. Also, a friend owns the DC240. After testing these 3 out and comparing them, I would either get a DC240 or a DC290. The DC280 is a "waste" of $80, unless you want the higher resolution option that the 280 offers over the 240. Other than that and the zoom differences, they are pretty much the "same" camera with the "same" features.

The DC240 and DC290 both have 3x optical zoom and 2x digital zoom whereas the DC280 has 2x optical and 3x digital.

Compare the 3 of them here...

If anyone has any questions on these 3 cameras, feel free to email fasteddie_g@yahoo.com and I'll try to answer it as best as I can.

I am leaning towards the 240. One other difference between the 240 and 280 is 1.3 megapixel vs. 2.0 megapixel.

I have been using a Sont Mavica FD88 (1.3 mpix) at work recently and I think the 240's 1.3 megapixels is fine for my needs.

I like the 3x optical zoom better also.

I am going to order tomorrow after sleeping on it.

$380 with shipping is a lot more palatable than $450+ I was going to pay, too. Wife will be a little more understanding!!

Oh yeah, Amazon doesn't charge taxes for us Californians like Buy.com does.

8.25% to the state bites.

Shipping seemed a little more reasonable, too.

All the local B&M stores were out of stock as well. Plenty of 280's at well over $525+, though.

Best Buy had a returned 240 they were selling for less than $375, but it looked like it had been beat up. Seemed like the normal 10% off open box buy to me although in much worse shape than normal

I love my 240, the only complaint is that the viewscope thingy (Hey, it's 2 AM) isn't accurate. Get's worse when you zoom. If you use the LCD screen, pictures come out great. Except for the fact that the batteries drain so quickly. Fortunately, Kodak throws in a pack of rechargable Nisomething AAs AND a pack a regular AAs. Good deal so you can start taking pictures right away. The awesome box also includes USB cable, Serial cable, battery charger and 8MB Compact Flash.

Some accessories that are recommended:

Camera baggy
AC adapter
Lens cleaner
Mo' batteries
USB Compact Flash Drive (mucho faster)

uhh yeah, that is all fer now.... :p

I have a Kodak DC240 as well; for my first digital camera I'm very pleased with its quality. The nickel metal-hydride batteries Kodak bundles (WITH A CHARGER!) are really nice, they'll help you save money in the long run :)
