I was surprised to hear that 61 was a MSG record. For some reason I just assumed it was higher... Jordan, Bird, Nique, etc etc. Figured one of them had dropped near 70 at some point.

Damn. 20 for 20 from the line. 19-31 from the field including 3-6 from 3 point land.

He was dialed in last night.

True true. For some reason it being MSG I just assumed someone had gone more ballistic there. I think I remember David Robinson dropping like 72 on the last game of the reg season at home that one year. Shit like that.

He's #61 and got 61 pts to break the record at MSG? I'll be reading about that in the 2010 edition of my bathroom sports trivia book.

i watch the most of that game, kobe was just locked in all game. its like, he wanted to show the rest of the league the Lakers were not out of the championship hunt just because andrew bynum went down.

some people say that he can't pull this off every night, two seasons ago, he had a strech of games where he scored at least 40 pts for about 10 games. I think the lakers will be okay.

The current Knicks team is actually a lot more fun to watch than the Isiah teams which were total disasters. Despite the fact Kobe went ballistic and that the Lakers are an elite team with a much better roster, the Knicks only lost by single digits. Not exactly a blowout.

it wasn't as close as the box score showed though...lakers had it wrapped up for most of the 4th.

Yeah, I know, but the Knicks are (at least I think statistically - they were for part of the season) the most woeful defensive team in the league, and they actually outscored the Lakers for the second half of the game. Considering the roster difference, I think the Knicks put up a decent fight.

the previous record was 60 by Bernard King. Jordan topped out at 55. None of the guys you mentioned scored 70. I think jordan scored 69 once?

61 is nice, but I remember Kobe scored 62 once in only 3 quarters. And of course there is the 81 point game.

Its only mentioned because MSG is one of the biggest stages in the NBA.

I believe Elgin Baylor scored 71 in the old MSG, so Kobe's record is for the current MSG.

Sigh, I can't believe I missed this game. I still hold my paper ticket for the 81-point game very close to me :p.

Seeing Kobe light up for 81 points was incredible. It was an amazing athletic feat and I was blown away by it. Kobe is just on a level beyond everyone else in the league; or even on this planet. Damn it, he's a friggin Alien.

haha I liked this blurb:

Kobe Bryant recorded his fifth career 60-point game on Monday night, the second most in NBA history behind Wilt Chamberlain's 32.

60 March 22, 2007*
* -- Won game

Two things of note:

-As much as people cry about him being a ball hog, he's won every one of those games.

-Wilt Chamberlain has 32 60 points games!! hahahah

hahaha awesome :D. I'm just blessed as is to be living through the greatest era in sports where we're seeing freak-of-nature athletes across all sports. (And sheesh, back-to-back legends in the NBA.. we truly are blessed to see such talent, athleticism, and what the human body is capable of in these freak humans)

Just to name a few freak shows (no particular order):

Michael Jordon
Kobe Bryant
Usain Bolt (hehe, I'd rather call him Insane Bolt)
Tiger Woods
Pete Sampras
Rafael Nadal
Roger Federer
Michael Phelps
Lance Armstrong
...etc etc..

And God Bless HDTV to have me see these athletes show what Humans can be capable of!!
