name one celebrity who has actually lost a case.
the current judiciary system is engineered to favour the guilty, as this creates an atmosphere where the innocent are less likely to be prosecuted.
All in all it works as the probability a guilty person, who is found innocent, commits a similar crime is next to nothing.

OJ Simpson? This was a civil suit, not criminal. OJ lost in civil court. Civil suits frequently favor the plaintiff.

Rewarding bad behavior? We will never know whether she gave permission or not. I wouldn't care if I had to give up my whole career, if someone sued me in civil court for being raped, I'd fight it tooth and nail if I were innocent.

Oh, the gov't has no problem taking money from celebs, but the likelihood they will be repeat offenders is extremely low and the reprecussions of the fans would be brutal. Just the way things are...i'm not saying they are right...but what can you do.

No...most lawyers and law students are fully aware that the system favours the guilty. And i'm fully supportive of this. It is logical to predict that with a better lawyer (more money) you can exploit they loopholes much better. This is nothing new, i don't think any harm comes of it. I mean the victims get filthy rich, the guilty has to live with the guilt, and humiliation, and likelihood of repeat is extremely low.

The only thing Kobe is guilty of is stupidity. He whored around with the wrong female and is now paying for it. Money notwithstanding, he has to face his wife, children, parents, etc. The "victim" states that she said "No" after the act started and Kobe kept going. Think about it, with this girl's track record and history, saying "No" is not in her vocabulary. In any case, it's all conjecture at this point. However, be that as it may, the "victim" got her money and Kobe will continue to make millions.

He wasn't punished for anything, he and the defendant settled out of court. I guess he must have mistakenly believed that he still had a reputation that could be further tarnished

I bet Kobe gets thousands of women who want him. This chick, from the evidence in the trial seems like she just wants his money in all honesty. She was bragging that she had sex with him to her friends and not only that, she had sex with many men in the period of a few days.

Clearly, Kobe wasn't exactly pleased with his own conduct wrt the incident, hence the relatively quick settlement. Had he felt he was entirely innocent, or that her demands were out of line, the whole thing could easily have been delayed for 5-8 years.

When you play, you pay, and whatever sums are involved clearly won't seriously harm his financial future.

Whatever happened, both parties learned a few things about themselves and the ROTW, nobody died, and it serves as a cautionary tale for both athletic superstars and their potential groupies...

That would have been huge amount of stress, a waste of his time and his money. Settlements are an easy way out. Give the accuser some money and your done.

All in all this is probably what she wanted. Smart girl.
