Since a 8800GTX is HDCP compliant, what kind of monitor would I need (size,brand,features) that would enable Blu-ray 1080p viewing on a computer? Assuming one would already have a blu-ray or HD-DVD drive.

Anything under 30"inches and budget is around $700. I am currently looking to buy a new monitor for my dad's computer, he loves gaming military-like shooters on the pc as well as connecting my ps3 to his pc when im not around.

There is a program (i think for 30$) by slysoft that will decrypt both bluray and HDDVD... so you don't need to worry about HDCP on either monitor or video card.
And any sufficiently powerful CPU would be able to decode the actual content. (I don't think an 8800GTX has x264 decode capability)

1080p = 1920x1080 progressive scan (aka 60hz instead of 30hz found in 1080i).

Every 24+ inch widescreen LCD monitor is 1920x1200 @ 60hz... so it will be able to display it with black bars on top and bottom.

brand etc doesn't matter.
22 inch monitors are 1650x1080. So they can only display 720p content.

Just got a Hannspree 28inch HF289H at Best Buy a couple months ago...around 580 i think. 2Hdmi ports and a set of component inputs. Haven't had a problem yet and everything looks awsome on it. Even have my ps3 plugged into the 2nd hdmi port. It also comes with dvi to hdmi converter.
