The first thing that popped into my head was Little Red Riding Hood, but uh,. that really destroys a childhood story for SO many people...

Does give a whole new meaning to being eaten however. Draw your own conclusions 😛

Most of the stuff written by N Hawthorne can be interpretted from three points of view: politically, religiously, psychoanalytically...

look at his short stories....

the little prince.. we read it in 8th grade and it was supposed to have some significant meaning.. not to me, though

Starship Troopers... the way the film was made was sooo way over the top, it pretty much hid the satire for most ppl. Plus most guys who 1st saw it are just shallow action-junkies.
I think it was supposed to be a satire on the original novel as well as society in general.

I thought it was supposed to illustrate the absurdity of fascism and it's implications on the human condition. It's a great movie if you can look past the immaturity of parts of it; especially the scene in the classroom discussing citizenship.

You should read Le Petit Prince in french to really understand the meaning. Same holds true for Camus.

And suprisingly, The Wizard of Oz actually was an allegory for the United State's debate concerning a movement from the Gold Standard for fiat money to a Siver standard.

Unbreakable might work, I did a paperon it awhile back on interpreting in the the context of another novel, the Intuitionist which might work better since it's about elevators but is really about something completely different.

William Gibson wrote a story about advertising that's like that. I can't remember the name off the top of my head but if i think of it i'll come back

If you want something really obscure (therefore you can BS) there is Princess Ida, the poem by Tennyson, and Princess Ida, the Gilbert & Sullivan operetta semi-based on the poem. There is a lot of scholarly info out there.

Alright, again all good ideas, but the topic must have genterated "some discussion in academic journals; your goal is to move beyond your own interpretation and beyond public opinion to explore the interpretive complexities that scholars have raised." The only topic I have had success on is the Wizard of Oz allegory. Perhaps I'll do that, but more ideas are certainly welcomed.

Try comparing and contrasting Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell: Innocence, and one of the ancient Greek philosopher?s theories and proof of what makes us human.

EDIT: OK, well now I need something that is more of a interperative debate. As in one person sees something this way and someone else sees it a different way.
