Know anything about coins?

I used to collect a little, but I've never seen one of those. Most of my collection is from the 20th Century. That coin is old by the looks of it....really old...maybe 18th, 17th Century or earlier.

I don't know squat about coins, but if I were to guess, I'd say it looks like ancient Roman or Greek.

I only collect a bit of US coins, and I know for a fact that wasn't minted here. Trying posting it in a news group. Also, do you have a photo/scan of the reverse of it? (assuming that is the obverse shown.)

Is there anything on the other side? How big around is it? How thick?

It is not a US coin nor a colonial one. I'll see what I can find out if you can answer the above questions.

nothing to make out on the other side...the coin is not round at all....sides and face are not smooth...i would say about 1/10 thick..8/10 wide

other side

Doesn't it appear to be an alloy coated in copper? That sort of indicates that it's a fake or play coin.... what's the history of the coin?

i dont know a single thing about it...an old gf gave it to me......i cant find crap on it.......i think it is copper...play coin or not...im sure its old and would love to know more on it

Those don't look like real letters. More like (and maybe this is just because I've been rereading the books) elf runes from Tolkien.... let's all google and see if we can find a match... some freak probably has the whole damn alphabet posted somewhere 😀

i have looked to google....didnt think to look for something like that......SWEET!!!! i gots ELF coinage ;-)heheheheh

Showed some people the scans, and no one thinks it's a coin - even an ancient one.

Ancient Greek/Roman/whatever coinage had crude designs, but they had a picture and more extensive lettering.

One person suggested that it might be something used to seal letters (when they imprinted hot wax with a seal) but I think the lettering would be backwards if that were true - so you could read it forward when impressed in the wax.

Good luck finding out what it really is.
