knicks replace Chaney with Wilkens. Knicks are DEFINITE playoff contenders.

what exactly do they expect to change?? they i know wilkens has won a lot of games but he hasn't won any SIGNIFICANT games. has he every gotten far in the playoffs with ANY of his teams??

i'm a hawks fan and its weird that both Fratello and Wilkens (former coaches of the knicks) were considered for this position.

As weak as the East is, I could see the knicks end up in the top 4 (they'd have to get really really hot), but i wouldn't call it impossible.

Indiana, New Orleans, Detroit and NJ are probably the top 4 teams in the east right now, i could see the knicks sneak past the Pistons.

if they don't get a bye, i think the knicks will be a pretty scary first round draw.

Ah, Lenny Wilkens. I thought for a moment you were talking about Dominique Wilkens (since you mentioned the Hawks). 😀

Wilkens won an NBA championship as coach of the SuperSonics. They went to the finals two straight years with him in charge.

Waltons teams.

It doesn't matter. The Knicks are so far down they need to look up to see the subway. That is one awful team and one sorry, sorry organization. They'll win a championship when there are no virgins on ATOT.

Are you going to qualify every championship team by the player that led them? In that case, Phil Jackson is completely overrated because he has had Kobe, Michael, and Shaq!!!

Awful team? Stop speaking out of your ass. marbury, houston, kurt thomas, and penny hardaway are far from awful. they're all great players. they just need to regroup and they should be great contenders on the east. noticed i said east 😉

Phil jackson to a lesser degree, IS overrated IMO. some of his moves so far this season and in the past has been questionable.

Actually, Wilkins' Sonics won the title in 1979. Two years prior, Big Red and the Blazers took it. The Sonics of '79 had Paul Silas, Jack Sikma, Dennis Johnson, Gus Williams, 'Downtown' Freddy Brown and a couple others.

thank you. wow, i guess i was way off there.

Unless your team has Shaq or Duncan on it recent history will show you that you aren't going to win a championship.
But with the Knicks winning it all is way way WAY down the road, just becoming respectable again is the first step. Chaney is a good man but there was no way he was going to last. Now Isiah has really put his stamp on this team and it can be truly be said that these are his Knicks.

Isiah mentioned that he went with Wilkens only after first asking Daly to come back out of retirement. Now that would have been something to crow about. Even at 70 years of age Daly probably still has a little magic left. I wish he would have given the Knicks a try.

If you live in NY, like I do, then you know that at least the Knicks matter again. At least they won't put you to sleep.
Now if only they could learn to play some defense...

the thing to remember when you change a team as drastically as they have is that Defense takes longer to come around than Offense.

i figure they will start playing better defense in about 2 weeks.

they win! tonight against the Magic. 😉

despite who it was against, the knicks are starting to ckick on Offense, to 120+ games in 4 games. that's pretty good.

their defense will improve as wilkens or whoever else the coach will be starts to drill a defensive concept into the team.

And stop talking out your vagina. Shoulda, coulda, woulda. The woeful Knicks are 17-24. Regroup? Try

new group. Get back in the kitchen and whip up a tasty meatloaf.

Knicks are gonan win13 in a row.

well, they've made a good start of it, 4 in a row now.

And 3 in a row with Wilkens.

yup. i like this team. i think they have a pretty good starting five. Marbury is good enough to be considered a major star. Houston and Van Horn are Legitimate #2 options, Mutombo is a decent center (not great but decent), Kurt Thomas is a legitamite PF and they have decent talent off the bench for their #6 and #7 players. if they had started the season with this team, i'd say they were as good as the NJ Nets.

Personally, I wouldn't take it that far but their starting five is solid. I would say their weakness is their bench. They have Hardaway, Anderson and Norris coming out and a little dosage of Harrington. Would be nice to have another big man in there to spell Thomas when he gets in foul trouble who could also backup at center.

But none of that truly matters. At least the Knicks are interesting again, that's something that they have not been in a few seasons.

Don't get too excited. They beat Orlando, Seattle, Chicago, and Toronto for heaven's sake. If they beat Pacers, Spurs, Lakers, and Kings then Wilkens will make a believer out of me. Otherwise, it's just another Toronto/Chicago after the trade start.
