Kneeling Chairs....

in case you're wondering what they are, these are kneeling chairs

my wife needs a new one, her old office max cheapo is dead. i'd like to get her a good one this time. does anyone have any experience with the different brands, qualities, types etc. ?

Some of the big-box office supply places have them in their catalogs. I tried one once and it seemed to be more of a gimmick than anything. Too bad she became psychologically dependent on it...

I like those chairs, and may buy one myself soon. Either you find them comfortable and you like them, or you don't. Where's the gimmick in that? Are bucket seats a gimmick too?

Comparing bucket seats and those what used to be called "back chairs" is like comparing apples and oranges. If those things were really any good, lots more people would be using them. It's like dentists holding on to the myth of fluoride because they have so much "ego equity" tied up in it.

I put the "back chairs' in the same category as the Das Keyboard. There are so many people out there with so much money, that almost anything will sell if you aim your pitch right and convince a few "trend setters" to endorse it (viral marketing, itc.). And sell enough to make some people a decent nut. I'm fairly sure the "back chair" has been debunked by now. I'll do some research tomorrow.

I think kneeling chairs are comfortable. Not to the point that I want to replace every chair in the house, but if I'm gonna sit down in front of a computer and use a mouse and type for an hour, I would honestly prefer a kneeling chair in that situation.

In many situations where Westerners sit in a chair, Easterners prefer to kneel on a mat. Both methods have their advantages, and I see the kneeling chair as a compromise between the two. It's a good idea, and I don't think it's newfangled or gimmicky at all.

It's an adaptive variation of the tried-and-true chair--not something that's supposed to be categorically "better" or replace it. OK, if I discuss this any more I'll start to feel ridiculous... 😛

Well, pardon me for living... I owned an original "back chair" - the wood one, and I told you of my experience. If I were to buy another, which I won't, I would buy one with a metal frame, a gas pressure lift, and as much adjustability as possible.
I can't see where Tempur material would be much help at the knee pad unless the user is very light or they have a much stiffer Tempur material than I've seen anywhere. I'd say the kneepad should have some resilience left regardless of how much pressure is exerted by the knee. There, that's my final say and I'll leave you alone now.
