I'm currently doing Stronglifts 5x5, I'm 6'5, 221.5 and received a lower back injury in highschool playing football. Last year I was given permission to start working out again by my doctor and PT, and have had no issues with my lower back thus far.
When squatting (even with no weight) my right knee generally pops twice at 90 degrees on the way down. It is not painful and I do not lose any strength when it pops. It does not pop on the way back up. My form is pretty good, my knees do not move during the lift and I pay close attention to keeping weight on my heels and driving with hips instead of knees.
Saturday (I switched from MWF to TuThSat), on the third rep of my 4th set of 245lbs, my knee popped on the way down like it always has, but on the return trip got "caught." I'm not sure how to describe it other than when you need to straighten out/pop your elbox because the joint suddenly goes stiff. After pushing past this the knee gave out and I fell (spotter caught me).
I've had a little bit of soreness in the knee yesterday evening and today (especially when driving) but no real pain, and the joint is not noticeably weaker. I won't be able to see a doctor until a week from Monday.
Any idea what happened or why I constantly pop, and is it safe for me to lift this week (maybe at a decreased weight)?
