you know kmart is buying sears for their real estate assets, they will most likely slowly sell off the assets then be gone. I will give them 5-10years.

i bet its actually sears buying kmart, they're just presenting this form to screw as many shareholders out of their rights as possible.

I'm not sure why so many of you hate kmart... If I need 1 or 2 items, I head to kmart first.

Pros:
1.My choice of all but 3 or 4 parking spots in the lot, rather than having to circle walmart's parking lot 10 times waiting for a spot
2. I *never* have to wait in line... there's always more employees than customers.
3. A lot of their prices actually ARE cheaper than Walmarts. Even Walmart admits this. Walmart's philosophy is "we don't have to have the lowest prices on everything, just the things that get people to come in the door."

Cons:
If it's a commonly used item that's sold in high volume, it'll usually be cheaper at Walmart.

Of the two stores, Walmart and Kmart, I hate Walmart far far more. But, I hate both of them.
I also hate the color scheme in the Target that I go to... I'm not sure if it's the same in all Targets, but, Yuck.

They are merging but the operations remain separate. So it will still be Kmart and Sears, not together.

If they market the Kmart locations as Sears stores, sell the same items for less, then the mall locations will suffer... because the Kmart locations would be subsidizing them. If they don't do that, Kmart locations aren't going to get any more business just because they change the name to Sears-something-or-other and sell the same craptacular stuff.

So, my guess is that Sears has a long term plan to restructure the mall locations--focus on clothing and other key lines (electronics, hardware probably just because of the history), and build upon the specialty items to Kmart locations (Automotive, Hardware, Electronics, appliances, Lawn and Garden, Furniture, etc). How do they do that without confusing their customers, well, good luck.

We'll see.

What makes you think there will be major product offering changes between the two stores? I think you are off base here.

BTW it's a good merger, the consumer benefits and both companies will see higher profit margins and sales.

The reasons I hate KMart are:

1. They are always out of stock on certain things. Try finding a tube of Crest or some Degree deodorant at my local one. Ain't gonna happen.....

2. They never and I mean NEVER have more than 2 checkout lanes open. Oh the store has a total of 14...but never more than 2 are open. Even at the height of Christmas shopping there will only be 2 freaking lanes open.

3. The stores around here are all nasty. I know people like to claim that Wal-Mart is a dirty store, but around here it is KMart who is filthy. In fact the Wal-Mart Supercenter near me is always spotless.

4. Ask for help in my local KMart? Forget it....you would have better luck getting Osama Bin Laden to give Ariel Sharon a hand job.

5. Their prices are always higher than Wal-Mart or Target on the exact same item.

6. The K Cafe? C'mon....do I really need to smell nasty KMart pizza or nachos every time I go in the store? NO!!

7. The stores are unorganized as hell. I was in there not long ago looking for some AAA batteries. Go to electronics right? Oh hell no.....they were in house wares with the towels. Another good example was when I was looking for some Miracle Gro. Garden area right? Nope...it was with the outdoor/hunting supplies.

LMAO!!! Tell us how you really feel. :p That's good Shinerburke, get it all out, it'll make you feel better. Your rant is basically what I've been telling people too. If all the other department stores were closed and Kmart were open and I had to get a Christmas present for someone, they'd just have to do without. I'd cut some paper up and give them a homemade card instead of goind to Kmart to find a gift.

It's funny.....the area I live in has 2....count em 2 KMarts still open. One in my hometown, and one actually in Tulsa. We are talking about a metro area of right around 1 million people yet there are only 2 KMarts. What does that tell you? Oh there used to be more....but they were so craptastic that nobody went there and thus they were closed. Meanwhile there are several Target stores, Wal-Mart Supercenters, and....hmm......4 Sears stores(not counting their smaller outlet type stores) I think. May be down to just 2 since they replaced the old stand alone building with an even larger store. Anyway....the point is that KMart sucks ass....at least around here.

I like Sears. Hope K-Mart doesn't screw them up. :(

BTW, K-Mart declared Bankruptcy last year (?) but has been selling store locations and assets like mad, so they had a huge cash reserve.

I haven't been to a K-Mart in years, and that should tell you something.

Sears, on the other hand, is pretty cool. I really like their Craftsman tools. Lots of good stuff there.

As long as Sears keeps selling electronics, with their Replacement Agreements, I don't care who buys them!

DSC-F717 $406.25 at Sears
  • They matched Circuit City at 473.99 plus 10% price match from 699.99 plus %10 special event sale going on now. Only had one left. Hope this helps someone shopping for a 717.
Sears Rocks!!!
  • Just wanted to let you know that excellent service that Sears provides...

I purchased a F707 camera from them about 1.5 years ago for about 800 dollars along with a 2 year protection plan for 150 dollars. Lately I've been having some intermittent issues with my camera. I was planning to hold off until the F828 was in stock but decided to return my camera anyways since there has been alot of issues concerning noise and CA that people have reported on.

But anyways returning the camera was absolutely painless. I didn't even have to explain why I was returning it. He just needed all the items that came with the camera back. The really cool part was "exchange" receipt yielded a 100 dollar rebate and also 15 free digital prints from http://www.searsphoto.com. Not only that but since technology gets better and cheaper the F717 was cheaper than what I bought th F707 for so I got 35 dollars credited to me! To put the icing on the cake my 2 year warranty is good until may. So whenever the F828 gets to Sears I'll return my F717 for a F828 and repurchase a 2 year warranty for my next upgrade.

Sears really is a stand-up company. Unfortunately my generation can't appreciate what it is to have a slightly higher priced store, but with excellent customer service and outstanding customer satisfaction.

I'm kinda confused. How does a company that recently declared bankruptcy afford to buy sears?

More reasons to hate K-Mart:

8. K-Mart has been cited in the past for limiting the number of hours that they give their employees - thus, they can keep from having to pay them full-time benefits. Their target employees in the past have been college students and retired folks. However, they really limited themselves by not allowing some of the other folks be "career" material within the company.

9. K-Mart failed horribly at running their own brand of automotive center. Penske took the auto centers over and that relationship didn't last too long either. Now, K-Mart has no automotive services to speak of, but has work bays attached to most of their stores.

10. At least half the times that I've shopped there in the past, the item I was buying wasn't priced correctly in the system. I had good intentions for such a trip being just a 5-minute visit to the store, but it turned out to be 15 minutes once everything got sorted out.

11. K-Mart hires a CEO who is on board for about a year, then decides to depart the company. His severance package for such a term is nearly 95 million dollars. WTF?

In summary, K-Mart sucks. I'm saddened to see that they would take their failed formulas and make an attempt to run Sears.

I would think so too.

I like Sears for their tools. If anything breaks, just go in and swap it out.
