KLSX Free FM LA/Orange County Talk station going off air on Friday

http://www.ocregister.com/arti...mp-2311999-jack-format

Talk KLSX/97.1 FM will flip to a new Top 40 format called "AMP RADIO" at 5 p.m. Friday, CBS announced Wednesday.

Current talk show hosts Adam Carolla, the team of Frosty, Heidi & Frank, and Tom Leykis will do their final shows live Friday, with Leykis tossing the switch at 5 p.m. to "AMP RADIO," which will begin with 10,000 songs in a row with limited commercial interruption "or about 28 days of just full-on music," according to Dan Weiner, senior vice president and market manager for CBS radio in Los Angeles.

The format, described as playing "all the hits," will also be online at www.ampradio.com. Artists will include Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Rihanna, T.I., Kanye West, Usher, Britney, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, and Katy Perry, among others.

Running "AMP RADIO" will be Kevin Weatherly, who also programs KROQ-FM and JACK-FM.

"Complementing the station will be an array of events and concerts, an extensive online destination with blogs, music videos, widgets, photo galleries, celebrity gossip reports, in-depth artist pages, an embeddable and multifunctional streaming player, and a platform to create artist-centric radio stations," the CBS announcement said.

While CBS' JACK and KROQ stations target male listeners, "AMP RADIO" will target women 18-49. Competitors would be KIIS-FM, KOST-FM and KBIG-FM (104.3MYfm).

While Carolla, Leykis, Heidi-Frosty-Frank are leaving CBS, there was no immediate word on their future plans. A CBS spokeswoman declined to comment on contracts other than to say "they are all different."

No word yet on who will be part of the new lineup after the first 28 days. The format has been in test mode on JACK-FM's HD2 channel. Current KLSX Programming Director Jack Silver is leaving CBS, a company spokeswoman said.

No more Adam Carolla, Frosty Heidi & Frank, Dannie Bonaduchi, Tom Leykis, Tim Conway Jr., 3rd shift.....damn this sucks. That's pretty much all I listen to while driving as regular radio music sucks.

Oh baboo

EDIT:

Some new info that was said during the Frost Heidi & Frank show

Frosty, Heidi, and Frank show disclosed that the reason 97.1 is going out of businss is because Leykis would not lower his salary. All of the other hosts on 97.1, including Carolla agreed to lower salaries, but Leykis held out.

WTF NOOOO

Does that mean Adam is gonna be out of a job or is he just ognna be on another radion statio

the rest were cool. leykis was okay when i listened to him for the first few months. then he just got really annoying.

I gave up on radio. Too many commercials and every 3rd station seeked is some kind of Spanish station. The future of radio seems to be lacking radio personalities. Instead it is just an ipod on shuffle with commercials.

Since it's a talk radio station, I'm not sure why this would be a surprise for anyone. The FM spectrum is basically full in the top markets, anything that doesn't need to be FM is getting the boot. Heck, even oldies stations are getting thrown down to AM. Of course the fact that they're not just moving the current talk station and canceling it outright means that there's likely more to it than just freeing up FM space for music.

ah, so this is what Frosty, Heidi and Frank were alluding to today. I'm disappointed, their show was definitely my favorite program, got great ratings too. They'll land on their feet somewhere.

ACE & Leykis will be missed!

They are both syndicated so I don't expect either to go off the air, maybe just losing the LA market for now.

Wow.

That is most of what I listen to, especially Adam and my high school alum, Teresa Strasser.

I hope they show up somewhere else, soon.

Gosh, SoCal radio is now officially done and over. KROQ killed everything with suckage. First Pirate, then KNAC, oldie stations aren't oldies and now this.
Thanks to all the dolts who listen to KROQ. The same station that played Gangster's Paradise 12 times in a row because they felt like it.

Oh and the Indie rock station is dead too. Friggin great. What next? KLOS going Espanol? Jack FM is the one of the only two that are decent.

I am so glad Sirius XM got Direct TV bailout.

Yea, I just heard this on this morning... and tried to google it with no results. This is a sad day. This was all i listened to every day. Tom Leykis is HILARIOUS. Wow, I'm shocked. Who the fuck needs a new Top 40 radio station? what a joke.

Jack FM sucks balls. Yea, I love some listening to douchebag one-liners mixed in with retarded messages from callers between what is basically an "older" version of top 40's.

KROQ playing 12 stations in a row might suck to you, it sucks to me, but they felt like it and its their station.

Yea Free-FM in the DFW area in Texas was taken off the air a month or two ago, it is now known as "The FAN" sports radio. They took off Leykis, Russ Martin among others most everyone outside of the area have not heard of. 🙁 now I have no FM Talk radio to listen to, oh well in the morning listen to the FAN to Jagger and in the afternoon leaving work I listen to the ipod.

Fuck you CBS - killing true talent

Order of greatness on that station:
Frosty, Heidi, and Frank
Tim Conway Jr.
Adam Carolla / Leykis / J&J

Fucking tools don't ever give talk radio a chance. I've tried time and time again to convince my friends to listen to this talk radio station (high school seniors), but they just laugh that I listen to talk radio.

Talents getting killed everywhere

Yep NPR is entirely different.

Conway and Leykis were my fave. You can still listen to Leykis streaming when at home but not in car or to anyone else which sucks. Also damn, this is the LA area. They must have been doing so bad to kill it in such a huge market. Me and my buddy really enjoyed listening to KLSX but not any more. Now just crappy radio music.

Leykis would fit in perfectly here, a lot of his "advice" on how to deal with females rivals some of the best on here. I know dudes who listen to him and look at his words as the truth. Scary shit lol

I'm listening to J&J right now, and they said that KLSX-FREEFM/FMTALK was bringing in pretty damn good revenue for the station.
I'm going to assume that since music doesn't have any big salaries to pay, that CBS expects to get paid more...

At least I get to listen to J&J still since they're a nationally syndicated show...

bleh... these guys were radio geniuses...

And no one my age seems to appreciate talk radio - this station was no typical talk radio - it was something great where the listener/caller played an integral role in the show. No matter how stupid the call was, it was allowed on the air because it was FREE FM.
When I heard that guy cry on the Leykis show about the economy, I was honestly heart-broken for him... there's nothing that makes things feel as real as talk radio
