I am interested in people's experience with Klonopin, particularly when used for anxiety.

I have a big presentation coming up and am really nervous in front of groups- hence the interest in Klonopin

Have you taken this before?

If not, you are asking for additional problems on top of being anxious
in front of the group. You will also be aware of your "slowness" and
difficulty concentrating which will fuel a anxiety attack even if you are
taking an anti-anxiety medicine.

I haven't used it before, it was recommended by a friend. I have a couple, so I can test to see whether or not they have a positive effect. was just wondering how other people's experience has been.

I still think you can do it without the help of those pills.
But it cant hurt to try them as long as you've read the
drug info on them. Don't take them until you know what
the side effects are and how it reacts with what you are
taking now. Read about it. Because if you dont, it could possibly kill you.

I know a bunch of people that take it, you can mimic the effects by taking about 4 drinks. Slurred speech, slow thought processes, basically it's like being drunk.

I'd recommed a pass on it, strongly.

klonopin - that brings back college memories of watching guys crush it and snort lines. just watching them was enough to never want to try such a thing.

Do what you can through meditation, breathing techniques, therapy, etc. before going on it. Pretty much takes you out.

Heh, thanks guys. I have now tried it, in fact I'm on it right now. I do feel lethargic and slightly goofy, but then I often feel like that. Thanks for advice.

Wouldn't it be overkill for anxiety? I thought klonopin was one of the powerful antipsychotic drugs..? wouldn't xanax, or even an SSRI antidepressant, be better in the long-run?

edit: OK, I was wrong, it is a benzodiazepine. So it should calm you down, I suppose. It's not exactly a long term solution, tho. Don't mix it with alcohol!

While I'll agree these guys are trying to give good advice, I have taken Klonopin before and a small dose will probably help you; it almost certainly will not hurt you unless you are alergic to it. 1mg or maybe 1/2mg should help.

In my very limited experience with Klonopin, I took a lot of it, got very very irritable and ended up almost fighting a few close friends and co-workers for no reason. I highly recommend against taking it unless you have an rx for it.

There doesn't seem to be much of an intoxicating effect (for me at least). My ability to function didn't seem to be decreased at all, but it put me in a terrible mood.

I have 1/2mg tablets, which I have taken the past two days. Yesterday it just calmed me down and today I feel slightly stoned and definately more mellow. So it looks like I will be using it for my presentation, which by the way needs to be successful in order for me to graduate.:frown:

Wouldn't it make more sense to go to a doctor and ask for a temporary anti-anxiety medicine, rather than just use these pills given to you by friends (and who knows what is actually in them)?

Beta-blocker medications like propranolol (Inderal) are supposedly good for blocking the anxiety you get when doing public speaking. But you should get some medical supervision if you're going to take those.

I used to work in a locked psychiatric hospital. It was prescribed for a number of clients in there. I dont think it was a casual use drug. If I remember correctly it is a sexiure medication right? And they are expanding ( or maybe Have expanded by now) its use for anxiety?

You may want to try half a tablet the first time you take one.... My doctor prescribed me a bit much I think. I took a whole tablet for the first time and I swear everything moved at like 5 frames per second to my eyes. It was freaking weird and I didn't like it.

It is now used for a variety of things, including seizures and anxiety attacks.

recreationally, yes. Like others have said, its effects are similar to a few drinks. I tend to just zone out when I take it

You probably have a higher dose than me, while I do feel somewhat stoned, I am still functional and more at ease.

exactly. on the prescription bottle, it says it's a federal crime to distribute this drug to anyone who it's not intended for. you really better be careful. just because you're nervous does not mean you're ready to take a drug like that. it's dangerous stuff.

<--- Doctor

Klonopin is used for severe anxiety or panic attacks. It's been a while since Ive done psyciatry but I seem to remember that "Stage Fright" can be treated with SSRIs (i.e. Paxil). Dont quote me on that, but if youre having trouble getting over it with normal means (imagine them in their underwear), see your PMD and they can give you something.
