Are you saying that the analog outs of an onboard solution are as good as an Audigy 2 for music, Pariah? What about the low quality DACs on the motherboard?

If you were connecting to an external reciever with digital out, sure, go nuts, it doesn't matter very much what you use for digital out... but analog outs are far more suceptible to distortion\interference from low quality components.

Get out of my thread dipshit. If you dont know dont post - you just prove to the world you are capable of typing and thats about it.

All them pretty chips and thingys on the soundcard are there JUST for looks, they do NOTHING, so it must not be any better then onboard sound.

This thread screams flamebait from post #3. Peng, if you asked for advice don't lash out when you're pretty much proven wrong. Most people will agree that onboard audio (excluding Nvidia's SoundStorm) sucks compared to almost any add-in card, let alone an Audigy2 ZS.

Nvidia's soundstorm also sucks, unless you're using an external DD reciever.

Sounds just fine to me, and MUCH better than any other onboard audio. Let's not threadjack with this argument again, one target is enough :p.

Sorry I did not mean to seem like I was flamebaiting.. I was just getting answers like "Get a sound card they are good". I can get that from some guy at Walmart. After #3 comment I have heard many technical things that make me realize that mobo performance may be degraded from a sound card. My inital thinking was flawed...except for the part where I called Tabb stupid, this still holds true. Thanks to all..cept Tabb the stupid and his love partner jacko.

peng, the impact to cpu performance should be the the least of your considerations.
you still fail to see that you're buying the klipsch's for their sound quality yet you're feeding
them a very subpar signal. as a rule, hifi audio people tend to spend 2x to 3x the amount
on their recievers/amps as they do on their speakers, which is a lot considering they spend 2000+
on their speakers. i'm certainly not saying you should do the same however you should heed that
example as to what's important in determining good audio.

Another thing is when you're in the league of the Promedia's or Logitech Z-680's and the like
you are going for very good audio quality and therefor should read up in order to get the most
bang for your buck. Otherwise you're just as well off not wasting your money in ingnorance.

If anything your computer will be SLOWER using the onboard sound.
I don't know the specifics of the onboard sound your motherboard has, but on many they use the CPU to do sound processing because they lack the hardware to do so.

The DACS on that motherboard are probably crap too.
If you play your games loud, you will definately notice.

With onboard, don't be suprised if you hear noise coming from your speakers when you move your mouse or your have IDE activity.

Yup, I am the stupid guy thinking of plugging in his ~$500 Speakers into a $1.50 soundcard, great logic.

using your Promedias on an onboard soundcard will yield a lot of cross-talk. you won't be able to turn the volume up without hearing a bunch of crosstalk/fuzzy noise. i was running my Promedia 4.1's on my onboard sound card and the crosstalk bothered me so much that i went out and bought an Audigy2 ZS. after that, no more crosstalk. :)

and besides that, the EAX for games rocks. there's no EAX with onboard sound.

Anybody who got half a brain knows onboard sound pretty much sucks.

And yes you do have an atitude problem.

Maybe next time try using this Button.

I guess this post may be going against the tide here, but onboard sound has come a LONG way since the times when integrated C-media sound was utter crap. Downgrading from a SB Live Platinum to the native 6 chan. AC97 onboard sound on my ABIT motherboard, I hardly noticed a SINGLE drop in quality. Albeit, losing the onboard digital decoding, optical in/out, bearkout box, from the soundcard was a minor letdown (I never use those features anyways), the sound quality generated from the Motherboard for basic analog output was surprisingly decent (coming off a Klipsch Promedia 4.1). It didn't have any noticeable impact on system resources.

I notice that my mobo sound is a little crackly sometimes and definitely seems to bog down my system more than using my Audigy 2, but not so much that I would complain.

It has come along way I'll admit, however it doesn't have CMSS 2 :)

I'd say other than the nForce 2 [which I have], mobo sound sucks. Go with an Audigy.

I am going with an SB audiogy - I foresee onboard sound developing in the next year to where I thought it was today. Some of you pick sound cards without question - wrong answer. The ideal would be to go optical out of mobo to optical in with a decoder on the multimedia speakers - next year I guess.

As for my attitude - I am not one to take a simple answer without question. If you don?t like my questions, then you better evaluate where you are deriving your answers from. Simplistic opinions are not acceptable; they piss me off - especially when I am called stupid for asking a relevant question. I don?t take crap from diks.

I appreciate all of those that added value to my post and assisted me with getting an answer.

Well, when I wanted to know if I needed a soundcard, I emailed creative, they gave me the straight facts.

They told me I didn't need the DDTS-100 though.
