Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Control Pod

I have a question regarding my control pod. When I connect a pair of headphones into the headphone jack of the control pod, music comes out to my 5.1 speakers as if the headphones were never plugged into the control pod. I would think that if headphones are plugged in, music should only come out to the headphones and the 5.1 speakers become disabled. Has anyone experienced similar problems? The control pod works fine to my knowledge. It powers the speakers and the volume knob works fine.
