I'm not sure what you gain if you have something like a Santa Cruz sound card and PowerDVD? I guess you get an outboard decoder that isn't tied to a computer? Anyway, I ordered one to play with. Thanks again for the post.

As far as hooking it up you may want to download the owner's manual from Klipsch at Linky Just click on the link at the end of the product description.

if you input a ps2, or xbox in the optical input or spdif input of the sound card, you do NOT get DD decoding... and you only get DD Decoding if you use power dvd for playing a DVD

The reason anyone would want something like this is 1)They own a PS2 or XBOX and would like to have Dolby Digital or DTS decoding of the sound from a DVD, 2)You have a hardware DVD decoder (much better image quality than PowerDVD or any other software decoder) and would like to have Dolby Digital or DTS decoding, 3)You need a relatively inexpensive home theater setup. You can input 5 different sources and have them play through your computer speakers. With the DD 5.1 and the Promedia 5.1 speakers you can have a multimedia system that is relatively inexpensive and probably rivals most "home theater in a box" products, plus it will provide 4.1 sound for gaming (this does require a "mod" however).

My setup is as follow in case anyone cares:

Celery 600 overclocked to 900
GF2 GTS 32mb DDR
Hercules GTXP sound card
RealMagic Xcard with HDTV output
Klipsch Promedia 5.1 and DD 5.1

>Midiland makes a similar product for about $120, but lower quality materials.

ive got to object to that statement, midilands decoders are TOP notch, the decoders have always been the best reviewed product from midiland, even when in combos like the 8200, just because it has the klipsch name doesn't make it not dog poo.

the new midiland ads-4000 is very good, and has all the features of the dd-5.1, dts, dd, etc.., technically its a 2nd generation product, since they had there ads-2000 dd decoder.

if you have some proof that they use lower quality materials I would be interested in seeing them, if not please dont feed into the klipsch hype machine.

nice sound card.
i'm still trying to not buy it. it would be nice. but i'm convincing myself, not yet. wait until pro-logicII makes it onto it.

it does work with any speaker system. so yes, it would work with the z560. just no center speaker.

Received the unit today even though the Klipsch web site indicates order pending. It does not come with a cable to connect the sound card to the unit. It does come with a number of Y connectors that adapt the RCA connectors to stereo mini jack connector.

Got MINE TODAY!!!! but I can only get sound when I play movies on DVD or Divx that have digital audio like DTS or Dolby Digital. I have an Acoustic Edge soundcard; anyone know how to get digital audio for everything?
