Is this speaker system as good as everyone says? I have an Audigy 2 ZS. Is any 2.1 system comparable? Thanks.

I have the Logitech Z-2300's and they are very comparable to the Klipsch 2.1's. They are simply awesome for the price.

I moved my logitech z-680s over to the tv/360 at christmas time and picked up some promedia 2.1's as replacements. The 680s are very good speakers after some tuning. The promedia's blow them out of the water.

I think it's hard to judge any speakers in an environment outside of where you'll actually have them, but I couldn't be happier with mine. I hope that someday something will happen to Creative's monopoly on the sound market and we'll have real surround sound in games....then I'll go back to a 6+ speaker setup...maybe klipsch. =)

Probably the best 2.1 set of PC speakers available. I haven't heard the Swan M200s but you certainly can't go wrong with Klipsch.

Very happy with mine. I have heard the logitech z-2300 set is just as good or better but I couldn't find one to try out before I bought so I went with the promedia's.

I love my Klipsch. They sound better than any computer speaker system I have heard for the money.

Much better than the logitech's i had (580s or something like that, the first THX set out). Klipsch's can be found for cheap on their refurb site. Got two pairs for $150!

The Logtiech doesn't compare, they have no mid it's just WAY overpowered thumping bass and highs, the Klipsch are in another league for music. I'm listening to a set of 4.1's right now I bought from the For Sale forum last year and am very happy with them. I use these and Sennheiser HD570 phones driven by an X-Fi XtremeGamer.

I prefer my logitech Z560 speakers over the 2.1 Promedias that my brother has, but maybe that is because my set is 4.1 :p Also his volume knob is messed up, noisy when adjusting volume and sometimes makes the one channel cut, but that could just be that particular set.

Man, I had that scratchy pot problem with my old Klipsch v2-400s or whatever they were called. The original set, before the 4.1 was released. That was a widespread problem back then; I didn't know it affected later sets as well.

I completely agree. The biggest difference I can tell us with the sub. With the z680, it feels more like a rumble. With the Promedia, it feels like a clean punch. I love my Klipsch Promedia 2.1. MSRP is a little overpriced but if you can get them at a good price, go for it.

What speakers do you use now, I still use my v2-400s as a 2.1 set (in my dorm). The scratchy sound comes and goes, but they still sound nice for pc speakers.

Any 2.1 speaker system is compatible as long as it uses a 2.5mm plug. The Promedia 2.1 is great. I own the Promedia 5.1 which is basically a Promedia 2.1 with 3 additional speakers. Very crisp sound output and doesn't distort when played at high volume.

I will add, my klipsch 2.1s died after about a year, the volume control started acting up then the left channel was popping often. I figured it was a refurb and, since I enjoyed the stellar sound quality for liek $70, I didn't mind it.

Depending on your budget, a home made 2.1 might be your best bet. I have a receiver, a low-cost but highly rated (unavailable now) sony sub and a pair of floor standing yet thin speakers - the combo sounds amazing and was made up of spare parts from my HT system.

Logitech Z-680s. They probably don't sound as good as the 5.1 Ultras for music, but they are GREAT gaming speakers and I felt safer going with them; I bought them when a lot of people were having trouble out of the Klipsch amps. They've been well worth the money IMO, especially since they have an optical input which makes playing audio from game consoles a cinch. They also have a built-in Dolby decoder which was a pricey add-on for some of the other brands at the time.

I've heard the Z-5500s are pretty nice as well.

Does anyone here own the Creative GigaWorks S750 speakers? I always wanted to hear those. For 2.1, the Harman Kardon SoundSticks II set looks interesting...

I've had mine almost 3 years now and I love them. One thing I notice on user comments on New Egg is that people who buy Klipsch talk about how musical the speakers sound while those who buy Logitech talk about how their room shakes because of the bass.

Have had my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1s for awhile now and love them too. IMHO, the only significant flaw they have is that they are somewhat directional because of the horn-loaded dome tweeters. You get clear, accurate highs (some people use adjectives like "soaring" and "crystalline") at the expense of directionality. By "directionality" I mean if you sit too much off to the left or right from where the satellites are 'aimed,' you don't hear the highs as well. But keep in mind these are computer speakers -- they're designed to be put on your desktop, aimed at you as you sit in your chair and look at your monitor. They're not designed for people moving around the room. Aim them at where you're going to sit and you'll hear all the highs.

As others have said, the bass is punchy and tight rather than boomy or "thumpy." Wanna rattle the walls with exaggerated, muddy bass? Buy some other speaker set. Want accurate bass frequency reproduction? The ProMedias do the job really well. :)

One other thing that owners of these speakers often do is buy the admittedly-overpriced speaker wire upgrade kit from Monster Cable (last time I checked, Klipsch was selling it on their Web site). The better wires do tend to make a difference in most people's opinion. Whether or not they're worth another $30 or $40 (I forget the actual price) is up to you. I say get them if you can afford them.

People often compare the Swan m200s to the ProMedias, but the truth is that the Swanns' low frequency response does not extend anywhere near as low as the ProMedias do. And you can't expect them to -- the ProMedia 2.1s have a subwoofer whereas the Swann m200s do not. Pair the m200s with a subwoofer (at significant additional expense, of course), however, and that's a whole other story (and kinda unfair because of the discrepancy in price range that would result).

IMHO, the ProMedias paired with a <$30 Chaintech AV-710 sound card (with the good drivers from ViaArena) makes a great computer audio setup for listening to music. I don't know if I'd pay MSRP for them, but on sale, like I got mine, they're a very good value.

Here's a decent review of the ProMedia 2.1s if you're interested.

Just my $.02.
