There's a 5.1 setup from logitech that runs ~$50. Depends on what you want, more sound or better quality. The Klipsch probably have better quality, but the 5.1 logitech set really isn't too bad either.

I donno what set you're talking about, but at $50, i'm thinking the only 5.1 set you can get is the x540/x530s, which are both less loud than the klipsch, I would say. The Klipsch would be better by far unless you really need the surround.

not just less loud, less sound quality big time at any volume. you just can't get something for nothing with speakers.

not to diss this deal or anything (its actually an awesome price for speakers of this quality) but I was recently shopping for a 2.1 system and the deals were scarce. so I looked on craig's list and picked up a amp and speakers at < $50. There are tons of old receivers and amps at dirt cheap prices cause they lack newer digital inputs. paired with a even a cheap pair of book shelf speakers they will out perform most computer speakers. and the extras like inputs to connect an ipod or xbox and a remote to control power and volume are nice features missing on most computer speakers.

sorry, not without a sub.

you could easily find a 10 or 12 inch sub that will blow that 6.5 out the water.... ive been wanting to build a small home theater setup for my computer but just havent gotten around to it, got some bookshelfs thatll sound amazing.

Got any recommendations on some good speakers/amps to look for?

Is the power button to turn them off on the back of the sub?

Do the speakers hiss when the volume is up but nothing is playing through them?

Thanks 🙂

you can turn the speakers on and off using the control knob on teh right speaker. To actually kill power to the speakers you have to flip a switch on the back of the subwoofer.

Speaker hiss i thought was related to eletrical interference in the line or surrounding objects.

Its got a knob on a cord, of course its better! 😀

Amplifier suggestion: I have used a vintage Pioneer SX-680 receiver with a pair of
cheap bookshelf speakers with great results. Just do a google search (or look on
ebay) for Pioneer SX-680 or SX-780.

I had the klipsch 4.1 setup back when they were selling it as refurb. It is a great set of computer speakers. Even though I've moved to a t-amp/fostex full range setup, comparing to that the klipsch still has a very clean and pleasant sound. The sound stage and mid range is no contest, however if I am listening to them away from the computer, I will be happy with either. And on top of it, with the klipsch I can just throw the woofer on the floor, instead of finding a stand for the loud speakers and the amp.

I ahve the Klipsch 2.1's, ahve em 3 years now and they are amazing I do all my djing small parties with them ebcause they are that good. Logitechs have over emphasized muddy bass and not so clear highs. You must be careful about the mini din connector because they do break if you leave them plugged in while moving the sub or control pod. Mine broke and I refused to pay for a control pod and I rewired a new din connector on the end and it worked surprisingly with my terrible soldering skills. I think I paid 150 at BB for these so 99 is a good deal.

Yes but shipping is going to set you back $20. And these were only $88 @ BB on Sunday since you could use a coupon.

Right - that's what I found as well. I was wondering since the speaker graphics were a bit different.

I have these and they are the single best upgrade I have ever made on my computers.

M-Audio Studio monitors have more detail for the same price.

I got the Z-2300s a few years ago for 50 bucks A/R and I have to say, they are amazing speakers even for 100 bucks. I've heard the Promedia 2.1s and they're very good, too. I haven't done an A/B test of the two, but either one is a great deal at that price. And like Googer said, a good set of M-Audio (or any, really) studio monitors will give you amazing (and accurate) sound. The thing is, I doubt most people here actually want accurate sound...

good speakrs..

but quality wise? they break easily. I use them for a couple months and they lose signal or have static when i twist the volume knob.. =/ bass also went out on one of mine.

luckily my local best buy is very awesome and gives a me a new set after testing it.

This is a great deal. I paid around $180(shipped) for mine just last summer. That was the cheapest price at the time. I did a lot of research and this is as cheap as I could find them. These speakers are AMAZING. They were a lot more than I expected from them right out of the box.

I'm no audiophile, but I do listen to a lot of music and I've been told I have perfect pitch/musical hearing. The pro medias sound very good to me. There are off course better sounding speakers, but there's always a "better" something out there.
There are some negative reviews on newegg concerning these speakers - pay no mind to them. Dont listen to people who say these speakers are not reliable and they break down or sound deteriorates after a year or so. This is NOT true. The Klipsh Pro Media 2.1 is a quality system. I played games, watched movies, and listened to music, and every time I am thanking myself for making this investment.

My only complaint is that these speakers have TOO MUCH POWER. I never tuned these babies all the way up because I live in an apartment building and if I go to the max, I'll have serious problems with my neighbors - plus I might have to replace my windows. lol
I wish they sold the same version with about 40% less power but exactly the same sound quality at a reduced price.

IMO, wasting $200+ for 5.1 speakers is simply not wise unless you plan to make your computer a primary device for watching movies.

PS: Buy these, and play Rammstein's "Du Hast" with your volume at max. 😉
(I take no responsibility for consequences)

You realize this "deal" or post is over 6 months old. Someones been digging in the archives again an messing with ya'll.
