Klipsch is a speaker manufcacturer. Definitely go for them. I'm not a fan of Altec Lansing and Logitech speakers. (or any other company like that)

I actually like the altec lansing THX 2.1 setup (the speakers are kinds big though, but have a nice piano gloss black). It has a very neutral sound to it, clear and detailed compared to the klipsch.

What's wrong with Altec Lansing? AL is like klispch, they make professional audio equipment, actually much higher quality than anything klipsch has to offer, but they also have a well designed multimedia line.

Logitech specializes in making PC periphrials. It's not right to put Altec in the same boat as logitech

Logitech's speakers offer excellent bang for the buck. From what I understand, although I can't speak from personal experiences, the Klipschs sound a bit better.

I personally am using a set of X-620s right now and they more than kick @$$ for gaming and music. They get almost painfully loud before distorting, and all areas of sounds are well represented.

I say if you can afford the Klipsh speaks, go with them, but if you want the best deal, nab the Lojees...

Never have heard the Klipsch 2.1s, but have had the 5.1 Promedias and the current 5.1 Ultras. Both of these get painfully loud with absolutely no audible distortion. You can crank up all Volume controls to Max and the sound is crystal clear.

What does Altec have thats mush higher quality then "anything Klipsch has to offer"? I hadn't checked their line up in a long time, but I just looked and the only thing I can think maybe you re referring to is that A7 system. But the few horn nuts I know all pretty much agree that A7 and the KHorns (both speakers generally regarded as the best things the respective companies ever made) are pretty equal overall (with maybe a slight lean towards the Khorns).

Basically I have no idea what you are talking about when you say AL makes much higher quality stuff.

I love my new logitech Z-5500's still i had both them and the promedias to my ears they sound veyr close..
and i prefer the extra punch the logitechs have in the bass department for gaming and DTS/DD movies where when you want an explosion.. you WANT AN EXPLOSION!!!

see beginning of Swordfish for example =)

AL does make some extremely inexpensive PC speakers... Good name or not, there's only so much quality you'll get at a low price. Imagine if Ferrari made a $15k econobox, would the name carry the same prestige and evoke the same emotions?

Some of you guys are hilarious. The z2200's sold for $60 (They were $50 a week earlier). I paid $150 (year and a half ago) for my Promedia 2.1's. I heard both...not alot of difference for $90. If you are a sucker for name brands, go for Klipsch, Apple, Nike, etc.... This was a no brainer.......

I said it in another thread, but ill say it again here:
I have been building and designing hi fi speakers for over 5 years now, and I have ALOT of experience with different configurations, what works, what doesnt, etc etc etc. You really have no clue what you are talking about saying that those logitechs have horrible highs, and its better to have a tweeter. First off, that is an uber cheap tweeter on the other system, plus you get all the smearing from the crossover from the midrange to the tweeter. I'm pretty sure their new top of the line digital system uses the Tang Band W3-871S driver. If so (I could be wrong, tang band makes hundreds of different models) its frequency responce is pretty much flat plus or minus 3 db up to above 20 khz, and its off axis response is much better than most high end dome tweeters. Many "ultra high end" speakers costing 5 digits have 6db peaks in their frequency response. many, many people that design, build, and test their own hi-fi equipment know about this little gem of a speaker. Do a search on a forum like www.diyaudio.com for Tang Band W3-871S. Here is an ACTUAL frequency responce of the 871S http://home.new.rr.com/zaph/audio/audio-speaker11.html

Heh, I was getting sort of off topic. I figured he was talking about their non-PC stuff and was wondering what the heck he is talking about 🙂
