Tried the BA7800s out, and they are by FAR the best sounding multimedia speakers out there. There is really no comparison, and I've heard them all. The bass is so clean its amazing. But it can get low and thump. The front satellites with tweeters are as clear as they can get. I'm a little bleh on the rears, but I dont use them for music.

And they only cost me $125. Buying anything else is a waste.

The bass is "clean" and "can get low and thump" because as the article states, the 80db range the sub is exaggerated by 14db. Id rather try and go with the most accurate recreation of a musical work than bass it up. Since the sub does a relatively poor job at getting the very lower end, the mid to upper bass range is overrepresented and gives it the "clean" sound. This possibly helps to combat much of today's music that has no mid to upper bass, and instead goes for the low overpowering boom. But older works, or better current mixes, have very good mid to upper bass and have no need for what is essentially EQ.

Sure its not perfect, but its better than the exagerrated mess that the z560 and promedia subs were. You just have to hear them side by side to understand. Youre going to get nowhere if you compare multimedia gear to hifi. I've been through more speaker sets than everyone I know combined, and this one stands out head and shoulders above the rest. I can assume that the 7900s are even better.

A while ago I had klipsch 4.1s. Wanted more bass, so I got z560s. Wanted better sound, so I bought videologic digitheater dts. Wanted more bass and clearer sound, so I went with a full HT system with 12inch sub and paradigm speakers. Eventually it became a little too expensive to keep, but I didnt want to lose all the great sound I was having.

I'm looking for new speakers, where can you find these at $125.00 out the door?

I tried pricegrabber, etc, no luck.

Ebay is going to be the only place. These speakers were made exclusively Gateway, and only sold by them. They sold their remainder of their stock through their online store last week (I know, I work for Gway).

Ebay was the place. Since barely anyone knew the speakers existed, noone bid on them, and they went for way below their retail value. I've seen them go as low as $80 bucks. Keep an eye out.

To you. There is the problem when debating speakers. Your ears may think they are the best, but others who have "heard them all" might feel another way.

The z560s certainly have an exagerrated sub, but I dont think the promedia's do. I keep my sub on my Klipsch at 10 or 11 o clock, and that keeps it powerful and clean. Why would you go for Logitech's over Klipsch for more bass, and then complain about an exaggerated sub on the Klipsch? The satellites on the promedia's deliver a nice mid to upper bass, and the sub compliments the lower end well. By my own tests, the satellites on the Klipsch setup can deliver bass in the 60hz-80hz range, not sure where the exact cutoff is as Cool Edit doesnt get any more precise than that. From the review, the BA7800's sub goes up to 230hz,which encompasses some of the lower vocal range. I didnt notice that when watching a DVD clip on them, but that was because of the placement of the sub in the store. A more natural setting would have that show up as a drawback, hearing vocals from what is supposed to be a non-directional unit.

While I havent heard the BA7800s on my soundcard, I have heard them. They are good speakers for the price, and likely better than the z560s for music, though I would still recommend the z560s for gaming. I still would have to recommend the Klipsch speakers to anyone willing to spend that amount on speakers. Coupled with a good soundcard, it would take a setup that costs more than twice the price to supercede it IMO.

Linky!

You've got to be kidding me. They don't even have half the power of the klipsch. Even assuming they are simply wonderful sounding speakers if you give them any volume the amp will clip all over the place and you'll have liquid-acoustic-sh*t pouring out of your sound system.

Everyone is looking for Klipsch killers because they don't want to pay the premium in price on the PM 5.1's. If you can't play with the big-dogs stay the f*ck on the porch.

Klipsch Krushers my a**
Better wash your mouth or something because all that bullshit is bound to infect your cold sores.

If you're such an elitist why don't you buy a real sound system instead of this PC crap to play loud music? You are not going to listen to 104dB of clean music for any period of time. Any volume, my ass. Clip all over the place, my ass. The liquid-acoustic-sh*t is coming out, but not out of my sound system.

BTW, for $3xx you could build yourself a decent system to hook up to a receiver if you have one.

Subwoofer kit - does not need amplification
Satellite plans - make sure you have lots of space

$220 + shipping for parts from partsexpress.com for the satellites, $99 + shipping for sub, plus MDF and fiberglass fill.

It's true that the rear-sats on the BA7800s do not make them the best option for gaming, but Mark does say that they are the best option for music, short of the now-discontinued $450 Crossfire speakers.

The BA7900s are lacking in one major way: the front sats do not contain a 3/4" tweeter. Look at the specs closely. I bought the BA7800s for the high-end "edge" a tweeter provides.

I've closely listened to the PM 4.1s, Logitech Z560s, and of course the BA7800s. I'd easily rate the BA7800s above the rest, followed by the Logitechs, and lastly the PMs. But, as many have said here, sound is very subjective.

Lastly, if anyone did not read the first paragraph of Mark's review, I was the one who purchased and sent him the speakers. The ones he tested now sit in my room.
