It can certainly flatten frequency response well below the unequalized -3dB point at the expense of amplifier power. Sealed enclosures and driver suspensions with generous excursion are required. Class D power is cheap so it's not uncommon to see power output levels right up to the limits of the mains branch circuit dumped into an acoustic suspension box with very high amounts of gain inversely proportional to frequency response roll off. Particularly with butterworth filters, FM distortion isn't an issue with these subs. And they don't cost thousands of dollars either.

Personally, I prefer Tom Danley's approach to truly infrasonic bass.

Most know that HiVi makes many drivers used in some of the most expensive speakers including B&W boxes, and Swans is their brands. Cambridge Audio has all of their equipment made in China. Most Japanese turntables are manufactured there. Let's be honest, most of the electronics from Japan are manufactured in China. The days of cheap crap are in the past, and if you stay with name brands you should find some excellent equipment.

I was VERY close to getting some Klipsh speakers like 5 years ago and am so glad I didn't end up with them. They were the Klipsch RF-7 ii series and I was going to get a 5 speaker setup. I went to someone's house to demo them and they just didn't do much for me and I get what people say about them being too trebly. I'm so glad splurged and spent more for other speakers because Klipsch aren't even comparable to them.
