nice. I bought some 4.1's about 6 months ago for the same price.
I dont use them much but they seem to work well when I do. Theyre too loud and I have to use headphones, lol
anyone else notice though, that Klipsch has an awfully large number of refurbs? makes me wonder if its a good thing I dont use my 4.1's often 😉

Yep, that's just 1 of several reasons I went with the Logitech Z560's and then the Z680's. Klipsch doesn't have the best quality control, at least on the ProMedia lines. I used to frequent the Klipsch forums and there were an awful lot of people having to RMA their ProMedia systems due to amp problems...and I mean a LOT. Not sure if that's been cleared up by now, but I know if you're lucky enough to get a solid system, they do sound great.

No, not trying to have a debate... Prior to my Z680's and Z560's, I did own a set of Klipsch v.2-400's. They were a great sounding set of speakers but suffered from that terrible static problemt that plagued the volume knob assembly. They never died on me though. There were some people on the forums that had to send their v.2-400's in for warranty, but I think the real problems started when Klipsch introduced the 4.1 sets. Lots of people had to send them in for amp problems, and the same thing happened with the 5.1's.
But like I said, I had the v.2-400's and I liked them a lot aside from the static issue.

You're starting to tick me off! OK, so Klipsch might have slightly better audio quality. SO WHAT? You said yourself that most people can't hear the difference, so let it go! There are TONS of us with Logitechs that are happy with them, so why rant and waste precious keystrokes by constantly reminding us that they are inferior to Klipsch? We probably wouldn't be able to tell a big difference, if at all, especially in a typical home environment.
Both companies make great PC speakers, why can't we just leave it at that? Let the buyer decide what he/she wants. I think most people will choose to save the dough and go with Logitech, and still get GREAT sound while picking up features that don't come standard with Klipsch, like hardware DD/DTS decoding.
Go home, Klipsch fanboy.
Klipsch PC speakers are garbage. I had a pair of 4.1's and they died just after warranty. Got a deal on a 2nd pair of 4.1's and they still work but they make awful static when adjusting the volume up or down. My bro owns a set just like mine and guess what? They make static as well. Do yourself a favor and pass on Klipsch.

A couple of concerns:
1) Audiophiles don't use pc multimedia speakers nor do they buy such crap.
2) What are these "ultra high end" home theater systems? I would like to know as I am always interested in people's HT setups.
I like audio, but I am no phile. I can, however, suggest that people possibly try out various competing setups to see what is better suited to their particular audio needs. Not everyone needs a set of HD-650s, a nice amp for those cans, various processing and all that crap to enjoy their audio, they just want to play UT2004 and hear their enemies and the craziness surround them! Obviously you at home and your "friend" at sony labs did these "tests" you speak of and he really used all his nice equipment and metered everything, used some test recordings from stereophile or something to that effect...
Please, if you are going to make things up, make them realistic. Next you are going to tell me your other friend, an editor for stereophile magazine during the day and an engineer working under Bob Carver at night decided to buy the promedias because his sunfire was too loud and his Mark Levinson amps were just too clear so he took them into his completely deadend studio where he promptly declared them 100x better than any other multimedia speakers on the market.
FYI about static when increasing the volume:
I owned a pair of the Promedia 2.1s, and had that same problem with my SB Live, not to mention audible distortion at higher volumes. Upon changing my sc to a usb sc, the problems went away, though the sound qualify left something to be desired. Then got a M-Audio Rev 7.1, which solved the problem of less than great sound quality. Moral of the meandering story- my particular set's problem was the other equipment it was hooked up to, not the speaker set itself. YMMV.

I own a set of Promedia 5.1s. Unfortunately my first set was bought when they first came out, those had many, many problems. The amp ended up braking and I returned them under warrenty to Klipsch, 2 weeks without speakers and I got a shiny new set. I have been using those since and am very happy with them. Klipsch also admitted to the problem and extended the warrenty an extra two years. That is something that will, in all likelihood, make me a return customer.
Can I tell the difference between these and a Logitech Z680? Probably not, but I got these as a gift and to me they sound good for everything I use them for (gaming mostly, a few DVDs, and music). Unless you have extremely sensative ears, just about any of these sets will do.

good price on the 4.1's, I paid about the same for mine on clearence from CC last summer. Simply incredible speakers, much better than the z-680's I had before.
I have a set of Klipsch I bought new long ago.. I read a lot of 'V2.400' and they may well be what I have, but was there a V1 ? because I wanna say thats what i have.. they were like the original 4.1 set they put out.. I've loved them for years and they've never died on me. I also have static problems when adjusting the volume, and for some reason lately the left front speaker cuts out sometimes i have to wiggle the volume knob to get it back.
the sub is 'boomy' which the newer versions fixed, also have the original crossover+sat's so the midrange is supposedly lacking compared to newer ones.
but these little problems i think just add character to some quality equipment that I've counted on for a long time

If you really want a good sounding system for your PC, you do not attach "PC speakers" of any type no matter the brand, just about any home theatre in a box is gonna destroy any "PC speakers" that being said the Klipsch PC speakers are some of the better PC speakers out there and these seem like decent prices on em, but if your serious about audio, get a real set of speakers and an HT reciver. Just my 2 cents.. 🙂
