Klipsch 5.1's vs. Creative's Megaworks 510D...

Hey,

anyone have any experience with the new Creative Megaworks 510D speakers? They are made by Cambridge Soundworks and are a 500watt 5.1 system like the Klipsch. I've read some reviews about both but was wondering if anyone here had an opinion. Thanks for any input.

Thanks a lot. That review comparing them was really helpful. The 510D is sto tempting, especially at it's price. Newegg has the Klipsch for $375 shipped and that's the lowest I've seen. I found the 510D's for $287, that's almost $100 cheaper. deciscions decisions.

Still, the Klipsch is more powerful since it is at a constant 500watt power, whereas the MegaWorks only delivers 500watt when it needs to.

Actually, that's not true. the Klipsch measure their power rating based on the burst rating, not RMS. The 4.1 systems were rated RMS but the new 5.1 uses Burst like the Megaworks.

Even if that was true, for some people, sound quality is more important. Also, power rating doesn't always equate to perceived louder sound. Take my guitar and bass rigs for example: the 180watt guitar rig always sounds louder than the 800watt bass rig. But as far as the Promedia & the Megaworks, I haven't heard either one, just going by the reviews.

i think he means links to the places to buy the speakers. Here is is: Megaworks site. You can do a search for the Megaworks 510D and it will show up. The site got a 3 star rating from Gomez and Bizrate rated it pretty high too. I've never purchased from there myself but the ratings looked ok. hoep this helps

I see.. in that case, Newegg has the Megaworks for $264 + S/H &, I believe, tax too. The Promedia 5.1 is $375, free FeDex Saver shipping (+, maybe, tax & handling)

Man, newegg's shipping really kills that price though. The cumbo.com price is $281 but the fed-ex second day shipping is only 5.95. Now I just gotta scrape up $280 to buy these suckers.

i have the klipsch 5.1's and i love them. they're amazing. but i cannot speak on the megaworks. but i don't trust much of creative's products. they never seemed to last very long or work well for me. but good luck on your Megaworks 510D.

For music, the Megaworks are better quality, because the midrange is better, but for movies, the Klipsch is better because of the bass and crackling highs. Me personally, I would go for the Megaworks. True, it is Creative, but its also Cambridge, and those guys make some quality sh!t.

That couldn't be more wrong. Here's how the Klipsch speakers are rated:

The Klipsch 2.1 wattages are calculated like this: 6.5" subwoofer-130 watts; (2) 3" satellites-35 watts each; Total system power=200 watts

The Klipsch 4.1: Dual 6.5" subwoofer-260 watts; (4) 3" satellites-35 watts each; Total system power=400 watts

The Klipsch 5.1: Dual 8" subwoofer-325 watts; (5) 3" satellites-35 watts each; Total system power=500 watts

How do you figure that if the Klipsch 4.1's are rated by using RMS, that the 5.1's aren't? All that the 5.1's add to the 4.1's are one more satellite, and 23% larger subwoofer drivers. This clearly shows how the 100 watt gain is achieved over the 4.1's.

I own the Klipsch 2.1's I couldn't be happier. If I had to do it all over again, though, I would buy the 4.1's, because they aren't so anemic when it comes the low end frequencies. Overall though, I think the Klipsch really have it nailed as far as quality and power go.

I'm basing my information in the reviews I read. All say that it is rated on Burst Power rating now for the 5.1's. The rating is very similar to RMS but I'm just pointing out that it is not measured in RMS anymore. The review over at 3dSoundsurge.com is where I read this. Also, the wattage is divided like this: Sub = 200watt, and satellites get 60Watt. The 4.1's are similar, 160watt and 60 watts per satellite. So actually, you couldn't be more wrong. But thanks for you input anyways.
