Klipsch 5.1 Ultras

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these speakers. Was looking at getting a 5.1 set up and love the sound of the 5.1 Ultras. However, I keep hearing about problems with the amp. Anyone have any problems with this? Or any comments on this speaker system that would help in determining wether or not to buy this system would be great.

Thanks

I have the 2.1's and they are ridiculous all my firned envy them over their 5 piece creative systems etc.. Klipsch's slam. I havent had a problem with the amp yet and I push it wicked hard. I have even done a few djing gigs in smaller rooms with my 2.1's they push alot of bass and I got the amp to the point where it was too hot to touch and they still happily pounded away the rest of the night. I would take the plunge. As far as amp problems, Klipsch has pretty good customer service so your in good hands either way. Just don't let the little ps2 connector on the control pod break, I learned that the hard way and had to reqire a new plug onto the end of it.

Welcome to AT.

The main drawback to the Promedias does seem to be the amp problems. I have read rumors that the latest generation has fixed the issue, but I don't know how reliable that is.

Here is a rather recent thread with a mix of experiences

Just some general comments on alternatives-
If your primary concern is music, you could get a higher quality 2.0/2.1 setup that could perform better for 2-channel sources.
If you don't have a strict budget constraint, you could get into "real speakers" on an expanded budget and get better capabilities than the Klipsch system.

I've had my 2.1's for about 4 years, but the amp finally played out. I paid for the rma repair and shipped my speakers back to Klipsch. After a month I finally called Klipsch to check on the status (hoping they would be returned soon) only to find out that the parts are backordered until December. I am now in the market for another set of speakers.

My thoughts . . the Klipsch speakers sound very good, but not incredible. My speakers definitely sounded better then my friends' cheap computer speakers, but never better than a home theater setup (even the ht in a box systems). I think you would be very happy with the 5.1 set, but would probably be just as happy with several different choices.

Same story as usual: they are among the best(if not the best) computer speakers, but suffer from quality issues. If you want a better scope of the problem, go to the official Klipsch website, and check out their forums; they're pretty populated.

i've had my promedia 4.1s for about... 6 years. I had a problem with the control module, but recently replaced that for $50 and they are better than ever. Never had a problem with my amp.
