Ok so i bought a new set of Klipsch 5.1 Promedia computer speakers in november of 02 with a 4 year extended warranty. Fast forward to december of 06. The center speaker starts giving a low occasionally bumping sound. Then suddenly all the satellites only gives out suddenly when any sound is played. The amp is built into the subwoofer. I am assuming something on the amp is blown. Anybody have a copy of teh service manual for this. Or know what i should check on the board of this. Would i just be better off buying a new set and not waste my time repairing this set. I am lost without my speakers right now and am trying to figure out my best course of action.

YoYo is spot on. Since you can buy a replacement Klipsch 5.1 Promedia for $99.99 from Tiger Direct, that would be the way to go if you really like the Promedia.

Personally, I would take the opportunity to replace it with a standard stereo system with a separate amp/preamp and some good speakers.

Certainly that would be a >$100 option though ;)

We have a decent set of sony surround sound speakers for the living room already but the klipsch speakers are for my computer only, plus i have loved the sound from them for so many years i really don't want to go with another company. Where are you seeing klipsch 5.1 for 99.99 on tiger direct i am looking but see nothing. A link would be really appreciated. I was planning on shipping the amp unit out to have it repaired for $150 bucks so a less than $100 option would be much to my liking. BTW thanks for all the responses everyone.

Klipsch

Not a 5.1, but why not add some of your speakers and just use their powered woofer? Can you repolace the amp in your woofer or bypass it and use an external?

ugh 2.1 speakers. The amp is built into their sub. That sub would only work for a 2.1 setup. I have taken up video/audio editing lately and i like being able to turn individual speakers down to make sure that certain sounds are coming out of certain speakers is kinda neccessary. Over lunch i broke down and called klipsch and am going to send them the amp module. It is going to cost me $90 to have them repair the amp module. It's interesting from what i was reading in the other thread. People who had problems with their amp from an original set of promedias sent it in and Klipsch sent them a whole brand new set of 5.1 promedia ultra's. Here's to hoping. The downside is they said 3-4 weeks to get it back to me. I'll update the thread in 3-4 weeks once i get something back from them.

The GMX sets are supposed to be rather crappy compared to the Promedia sets.

Also, there's no way to add speakers to that if the amp only has stereo output.

Good luck.

I know there are a number of 2.1 promedia subs on ebay but I didn't see any 5.1 subs as an option for you :(

Yeah calling klipsch was my very absolute last option. I put postings on craigslist in the gigs section, i searched on craigslist and ebay, so far calling klipsch seems like the most reasonable option. The sub usually goes for 150-200 on ebay. i just can't go back to 2.1 after having 5.1 so long.

I have a set of 5.1 promedia's I bought in 02 as well.

They sound good, but I've always had amp issues. I had it replaced twice when they were replacing everyones. Both of them had went out.

I have issues with volume control being overly sensitive and jumping around when you touch it or going up 20 levels.

Now it will make a speaker pop like power going straight to the sub and speakers then cut off. I check all the cables to make sure nothing is burnt, touching, or loose and turn it back on.

All in all I love the sound they can produce but they are just bad quality. I'm just going to use my HT setup next time. Screw Klipsch!

Feel free to stay with Klipsch if you go for a real HT set. Nothing wrong with their actual HT speakers :D

you could always buy my logitech z5500 subwoofer/remote.control module and connect your klipsch satellites in the for sale section,

but yeah the promdeia's do burn out a lot, I went through 3 of them

klipsch was pretty awesome with the rma's with free shipping

have you tried to contact them at least?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Logitech sats are 8 ohm and the Klipsch ones are 4 ohm.

I have never run into the problems everyone else has had with them. My speakers never gave me a single second of problems for over 4 years. Plus for computer speakers i love the quality of the sound. My amp is on it's way to klipsch now and we'll see how they handle it all

Mine decided recently to do nothing other than emit a high-pitched whine from the amp.

I've had the Promedia 5.1s since Jan 03 and never had a problem with the amp, but I do remember reading a lot about it. I'm curious about the jumpy volume control knob, because I definitely have that and it's getting old =( would just buying a new one take care of that problem temporarily?

I've heard way too many stories about the amps on the Klipsch sets giving out prematurely without abuse. It seems to me to be shoddy manufacturing :|
