hey i heard that on the older v.2-400, the sub contained TWO speaker cones within the box.

is this true, if it is then is the same sub setup used in all the speaker sets?

very very tempting but i havent heard any responces about hte reduced wattage on the sats. is there a noticeable loss from the prior version with the 60w sats?

undercover: yea the original v.2-400s had 2 cones in the sub box but the newer ones only have 1 cone, however it seems that there is little dicernable difference from the reviews i've read

So which one is better? The 4.1 or the 4.2?

Or how bout, the 4.1, 4,2, 2,1, or 2,4? Just curious as to how my (incoming) 4.2's will be compared to the others. Thanks! :D

Yes some one that is in the know please help out us less fortunate and tell us if the smaller wattage to the sats is a noticable differance over the 4.1's?

I am VERY tempted.

However, what are the advantages of the ProMedia 4.2 for $299 plus shipping over the older Promedia V.2-400 for $249 including shipping (at outpost.com)?

If I am going to run a 4 speaker system (at reasonable volume), who really cares about the second subwoofer?

I have carefully read through this thread (twice) and have not found this really addressed. Nor has anyone commented on the lower wattage through the satellites. I can't find any reviews on this setup (Klipsch's review links are for the ProMedia 2.1).

Help, please. (Money's burning a hole in my pocket.)

I afree this question needs to be answered, where are all the audiophiles that have used both sets. I'm not gonna pay an etra 50.00 bucks to have my extra sub drowned out my underpowered sats, if that is the way it would be. Let us know please.

hm how would they be drowned out? From the reviews it seems the 2.1s are balanced to begin with.. :p

Well, I e-mailed Klipsch regarding the lesser wattage to the satellites.

I really don't feel like paying $75 more for a redesigned crossover and headphone jack (the newer V.2-400 is supposed to have the quieter preamp than the original) and an extra subwoofer if the older one is adequate. And I am certainly not going to split the 4.2 into two 2.1 systems.

Bah! Will someone that is knowledgable please answer the dying question: "Is the Klipsch 4.2's really worth getting over the 4.1's, let alone the 2.4's?" Thanks! :D

By drowned out I mean that having 2 subs producing a large amount of bass, and 4 sats not producing a large amount of midrange, then the bass would overpower the midrange. I don't need the headphone jack, as I have on on my sound card, and as for the other stuff, I have heard both sets sound good, now I want to know which is better.

mikef208, I see you posted a thread in General Hardware about this.

Nobody seems to know what is better bang for the buck.

EDIT: From past experience with Klipsch home speakers - they are EXTREMELY efficient.

A 35 to 60 watt increase should only produce 2 or 3 db more volume (noticeable - but not disturbing). If the 2.1 system is very balanced there should be no problems with two.

I want to see what I will really get for my extra $75.

You and I are in exactly the same situation. I actually had my credit card in my sweaty hands for awhile.

I am just worried that Klipsch is trying to get rid of their old 2.1 stock by combining them into a 4.2 system.

The POWER switch on the 4.2's is on the BACK of the SubS... therefore you will need to climb behind both subs... if you want to shut them off... this according to the pictures on Gamersdepot....

I am most curious about having to get up to adjust the volume of the back speakers... or do I set it up so each SIDE has volume?

Oh want there is no surround control on the 2.1!

Tough decision... two subs... or likely more control and a power switch on the control pod?

This is really tough... keep in mind you can likely make two systems out of this kit NOW or LATER

wongsoongpak you could sell half!

Well, think about it.

Klipsch is way backordered on the 4.1 system (the improvement over the v.2-400). They have plenty of 2.1 systems which probably are not selling well (now on sale for $20 off). Why not combine them - call them 4.2 - and hype the heck out of them?

See Wolverine27's link to GamersDepot.com.

Read the ENTIRE article. It discusses the 4.2 (2.1 x 2) system. Is is much better than the old v.2-400 and evidently as good as the new 4.1 (same priced but back-ordered) system.

It looks like a pretty good system.

Now, decisions, decisions . . .

I am waiting . . . from an e-mail from Klipsch. I asked them what's the SONIC difference between the 4.1 and 4.2 systems.

One think for sure, I won't go with the older v.2-400.

Ordered a set this morning at 2:30am.....I really need to quit staying up late reading the boards. Cost me too much!

Can't wait to get them though.

.....must up the insurance on my house so I'll profit when the neighbors burn it down after hearing these.
