get 2 2.1's. the new 2.1's have headphone jacks on the right speaker, well worth the price of admission.

bump so everyone can see this.

What are the disadvantages to this system no having digital inputs. I don't know much about the differance between digital and analog, but that seems to be the main con in all the reviews.

I have the 2.4's and I don't think my neighbors will appreciate another subwoofer on my system. I'm also considering the control panel for my setup, but didn't think it would be worth it. Please elaborate and the sound difference for us if you can overnewbie.

Is it really worth the $50 bucks?

I brought the adapter when it first came out..a few months ago. If I am not wrong I think the lows were crisper and the sound seems cleaner, in the speakers, may have taken away some of the bass in them...I guess I should have written it down at the time...oh well. It was also nice to be able to turn them off if you wanted too. There are jacks on the side for headphones and input jack for mp player. It was worth the money and easy to install..took about 5 to 10 minutes maybe.

Does that new adapter get rid of the "static" you can hear when turning the volume knob? It's pretty annoying, although it can be fixed by turning the volume control from min to max really fast a few times.

GQUnknown have you actually listened to the Klipsch speakers? I currently have a $7000 THX EX (7.1) system at home so I can say I'm a bit of an audiophile.
I have a Denon AVR-4800 hooked up to a Raven tube amp, which is hooked up to a full set of the S lineup of MB Quart speakers. So you can probably tell I am very picky in my taste. And trust me, I've tested them all. I've tried B&W, Tannoy, PSB, Klipsch, Boston Acoustic, and Paradigm I've listened to those little Klipsch 4.2's and can say it kicks any computer speakers a$$. The high's, i love those Kilpsch horn tweeters, are fantastic and clear. The lows are fairly decent, but doesn't touch my M&K sub. =)
The cambridge stuff is pretty crappy, but hey for a fully featured AC-3 encoder and speakers its not a bad deal. But hey if you want to piss off your neighbors playing Quake, the Klipsch is definitely the way to go! Sell a kidney if you have to, but get these speakers if you can't afford a real home theater.

For anyone wondering if you can use the 4.2 system as two separate systems on two computers. The response from Klipsch is:

Yes, it's really just two 2.1 sets. You can absolutely use them on 2
separate computers.

I've tried the Klipsch online store and noticed that they have coupons!
Anyone have one of these coupons?

I have a 12" 450 Watt Definitive Technoolgy sub hooked up to my mini system stereo, let me tell you, it really sounds good!! I heard that sytsem (the 400.1) and it wasnt close to what I have! But then again, I got lucky and got my sub for $30 at a flea market with nothing wrong with it all (must have been stolen??!!). Best $30 investment I ever made!

DavidJr, I would have to agree. The Klipsch sub isn't great, but its by far the best thing available for the computer.
Granted having a $2400 M&K sub (THX certified, and you must sign a waiver to buy it, will break windows) really makes everything else pale in comparison.

Yeah, We have 2 10" 250 watt Definitive Tech subs for our home theater. 1 on each side, they are great. Mine though I was lucky to get and am really glad that I did. But for computer speakers that are made for them, the Klipsch is the best sounding that I have heard!

Does anyone know when they will catchup on the backorder for the 4.1 system, although the 4.2 system looks nice and based on your reviews sounds like it is a good system, I feel the 60 watt satalites will provide much better sound quality than the 35 watt ones, and I really dont need 2 subs. If anyone disagrees with me about the 4.1 being a better 1 computer system then speak up please.

Gamersdepot.com has a good review of the new 2.1 system here.

They mention comparisons between the 2.1 and the 4.1...a few tidbits...

"Another important thing to point out is that the 2.1s have no power compression or limiter on the subwoofer, which means you can crank it to your heart?s content and it?ll keep pushing the sub louder and louder. As you may recall the 4.1 system has a limiter/compressor on it that turns the subwoofer down after a certain amount of volume. On the backside of the subwoofer enclosure is the connection plate that ties the whole system together. Along with the power switch, there are the speaker terminals, the pre-amp input from the satellite control module, and a 12 Amp fuse..."

"The satellites in the 2.1?s have also been updated. Using the same great drivers as the 4.1?s, these newer satellites have a revamped crossover network in them that results in a midrange section that seems more ?alive? and full. Included on the right-hand side of the satellite control module, you?ll see that Klipsch has made another improvement as well. After listening to suggestions from the press and their end-users, Klipsch has made it ultra-easy to instantly hook up headphones or your personal audio device straight into the speaker. This saves you from having to dig behind your PC and find the soundcard jacks..."

"There?s also a hidden talent that the 2.1s have that helped them to replace our current v.2-400s as our reference system. Have you ever been watching a movie or playing a game only to have the rear audio channels sound thin? For example, in the movie The Matrix during the helicopter scene, did you know that as the blade on the helicopter spins around, that you can hear it go around the room? The surround sound information on the DVD is actually trying to send a very low frequency signal from front to back. We?ve found our answer to this dilemma, and that is to get two sets of the 2.1s and hook them up as a 4.2 loudspeaker system. Doing this gives you two satellites in the front, two in the rear, one sub in the front, and one sub in the rear. This configuration has created the ultimate PC sonic experience for us, and our lives will never be the same at GD."

I'm ever so close to pushing the "buy" button...

wow, the deal sounds tempting, but i just had a few questions.

since there are two volume control units on two satellites, i assume this means there is one for the front and one for the rear speakers, does that mean that the volume for all speakers cannot be controled from one unit?

also, i know that there is a power switch. is it on a satellite or on the sub? i assume that there would be two switches since we are getting 2 speaker setups in this deal.

300 bucks is a lot of money but this is a freaking good deal. someone help me out.
