i bought the Cambridge DTTS 2500 5.1 instead. It kicks this klipsch @ss all over the place

LOL...I have the DTTS 2500's and there's no way I'd make a fool out of myself like you just did. These Klipsch babies are the best, period.

I went with the Cambridges over the Klipsch speakers, because of Dolby Digital 5.1 (I watch alot of DVD's) and the lower price ($100 less atleast). So unless you use your computer for DVD viewing more than gaming (like me) there's nothing that can even breathe the same air as these kick as speakers.

Warning: Your neighbors and landlord WILL GIVE YOU EVIL LOOKS THROUGH TIRED EYES because you've kept them up all night.

Doy Doy,

I used to wonder the same thing. Then *today* I was at my friend's house and he has the 4.1 version. HOLY MOMMA!! That was amazing!!

I used to make fun of him for paying so much for computer speakers. Now I'm eyeballing this deal to maybe pick up some for myself.

Now, how am I going to slide this one past my wife... :)

Lemme see if I have this right - its just two of the 2.1 Klipsch sets put together? Thats a pretty good deal then on two 2.1 systems (if you want to buy one with a friend I suppose) 150 each

Floydian:

Not exactly. Only one of the satellites has the preamp unit, so you could not just split this into two 2.1 sets. Also, I believe the Klipsch 2.1 set has the larger sub that comes with the V.2-400 set.

Klipsch's are the best. We I get a new computer I am going to get some.

They use much higher wattage speakers than any other computer designed speakers. The music department at my school is completly outfitted with klipsch speakers. They are awesome.

If anybody has installed the new Control Pod Preamplifier to their existing v2-400,
what do you think? Does it sound better? Was it worth it?

Floydian, it appears that the 4.2 system is indeed two 2.1 systems, each with its own control pod.
Look at the pdf, and you'll see two control pods--one on each of the two front sattelites. (The control pods are not integral with the sattelites, they can be put on any sattelite).

Glad to hear they're two 2.1 systems. I ordered the 4.2 speakers a few days ago and wanted to sell one of the 2.1s on e-Bay. It'll probably sell for $180+shipping so in the end my 2.1 speakers cost less than $150. To anyone hesistating to purchase the 4.2s, don't think you're paying $340 total for the speakers, but rather less than half that amount.

Biggmo,
$249 at Best Buy gets you the 4.1 Klipsch system. This is the 4.2 system adding an extra subwoofer.

<The 2.1 is 200w system, 4.1 is a 400w system. Two 2.1's (this offer, the 4.2) is a 400w system as well right? 200+200? so there is less power going to each sub? or less going to each satellite?>

Each sub has 160watts powering it
each satellite has x amount of power going to it (between different web sites, i cant get a clear answer on what this amout is.. some say 20w, some say 60).
No speaker is getting less power than it would in a 2.1 setup.
Note that when using 2 subs, placement is VERY important. You can easily (especially if you dont know what youre doing) make it so you have less bass with 2 subs than you would have with one. Destructive interference is hard to get rid of especially if the sub doesnt have phase controls.

4.1
Each sat gets 60 watts. the subwoofer gets 160.
60 + 60 + 60 + 60 + 160 = 400 watts

4.2
Each sat gets 35 watts. each subwoofer gets 130watts.
35 + 35 + 35 + 35 + 130 + 130 = 400 watts

how do these compare to the Cambridge DTT3500 5.1 speakers?

The same way the dtt2500s do, the only difference is a slightly larger(microworks based) center speaker. I owned the dtt2500's for a month b4 i dumped them for the klipsch, no comparison:) Funny how cambridge bases all their speaker lines on the soundworks satts, whcih came out like 5 years ago. The higher model microworks sats don't show up anywhere cept for that one center speaker. Even then its no good, very harsh at higher volumes, and no highs. Believe me, i've also owned the soundworks, and microworks(deceptive name)

Anyone know if its possible to pricemach this deal with Outpost to get the two sets to 2.1's for $299 with free shipping?

Also, another option is to order from Outpost with free shipping using the AmEx Blue card, and then use their price protection against the Klipsch website for $299 instead of the Outpost $399 price. Anyone ever used this price protection from AmEx? How does it work and how fast does the check come?

Thanks, Aaron

I think I will take the plunge. Need another set of speakers for a small room computer and the computer in the bedroom. Love this deal 2 sets for the price of one. Have the ProMedia 4/1 on the main computer and just added the control panel..a definite improvement. I will be in music heaven.

Anyone have any reviews on the 4.2's? Do they sound as good or better than the 4.1's. I understand you will have more bass, but bass isn't everything. Also the 4.2's appear to have less wattage to the sats., but wattage doesn't mean everything either, but in some cases it does. I guess what I am babbling about is, do these sound good enough, or should I just get the 4.1?

Also I have a Hercules Game Theater XP, I would be able to hook up an extra center channel wouldn't I?

I have the Klipsch Promedia 4.1 when it was $249. I rarely have to turn the volume past 1/3 the volume scale. At 1/2 the scale, my windows are shaking. I have never been able to turn the system up all the way because my eardrums would probably bleed. :D

There's a guy next door to me that have been turning on his music at odd times during the night and on weekends. After I got the 4.1, every time he turns on his music, I'd turn mine up with some techno music. Shuts him up every time now, hehe. ;)

Don't even think about it. This system is the best computer audio investment you will ever do, period. This system kicks serious ass! The sound is crisp and clear, and even with just 1 sub the bass is unbelievable. Now I'm trying to see if I got any more money to buy some home Klipsch speakers as well. Darn, there goes my next paycheck. :)

overnewbie, you added the control panel to your v2-400 and said it was an improvement--in what way does it sound better?
