I was at the BB in Salem, NH the other day, and I saw this DVD player for $40!

Link shows $50 online, but I think the $40 in-stores is nationwide. (Can someone confirm?)

Looks pretty slick, and it plays back all my DVDs great with great picture quality (although I have a crappy TV and am using RCA out).

Only downsides are weird directory navigation for MP3s/JPGs and no front panel display, but for $40, I'm not complaining.

(Edit: link fixed)

My first standalone DVD player, a Samsung 907, was $279. And that was a hell of a bargain at that time, a Panasonic A-110 was around $350.

Anyone know if this player will can play XSVCDs without the video stuttering (as it does on better layers like Sony, Pioneer and Phillips from what I've read)? I'm looking for a cheap second DVD player that will be able to cope with this higher-bitrate SVCDs - mainly so I can watch some TV shows I've pulled off of BitTorrent on my big TV in the living room. Since XSVCD is an unofficial hack of the SVCD format, it is hard to find players that you KNOW will work. (Oddly enough, it seems like the cheapest players work the best when viewing these discs).

My first DVD player was a Toshiba SD-2109 player that I bought from 800.com for around $200 (with $50 in free DVDs). They made me a customer after that 3 DVDs for $1 sale, lol.

Nice, cheap unit. I picked one up a month or two ago at BB for $39.99. Plays the DVDs I burn without a problem and everything else I throw at it.

However, the remote SUCKS! It has to be one of the worst designs I have ever seen, very awkward. I thought, no problem, I'll just program my One for All remote with the commands and stow the remote. no such luck. I tried 2 different learning remotes and neither could learn the KLH codes, and none had them preprogrammed. Hip Shing, makers of the KLH stuff uses some offbeat codes, I picked up one of their receivers last year, open box $49.99, and it has an awful remote too, it's commands could not be learned either. I haven't bothered to look too hard for a remote solution, these components are in a spare room and I don't use them much.
