I built a computer for my nieghbor. It was working great and had been tested very thoroughly for a couple weeks before I delivered it. I set it up and turned it on for the first time. It took about 10x longer to boot. The only thing that changed is I disconnected it from my network. Is windows still attempting to resolve that connection?

where in the boot up is the slow down?

i know i have had probelms with drives getting recognized during POST and eventually it would boot. i switched the drive around on the IDE cables and bang it was better.

maybe that is a good idea?

dew.

edit: bam! 1000 posts. whoohoo.

It's the network connection. You used DHCP for the addressing, right? It's looking for something out on the Internet to tell it who it is. I get this all the time with my computers when my network goes down. If he's not on a network, just go in and disable those settings and you'll be right as rain.
