I have a friend that just bought a 2200XP for his KK266-R board. The board will not do anything with the 2200 in it,no video signal -beeps-nothing. When he puts the 1.2 tbird back in everything works fine. Could it be a bad cpu? Anyone used a 2200 on a KK266? My guess is a bad cpu, but i`m not sure.

I'm pretty sure he needs to update his bios and also YMMV with an XP in this motherboard.

It seems there is a host of issues trying to get the new cores to run in "older" motherboards. If you haven't contacted the mobo manufacturer, try that and find out what the stipulations are. I am trying to get the same cpu to run in an Abit KR7A 133R and not having much luck. There are some posts about various methods to get it to run but I have tried most and haven't been successfull. Here is a thread that I started with. There is some good information in there but like I said, different board and so on.

Thanks for the link. Looks like he might have to upgrade the board or downgrade the cpu.

I have the same MB and bought an XP 2000. I noticed for one thing I had to decrease the default core voltage to get mine to work at 12.5 x 133. Also I occasionally get a lockup for no apparent reason usually when Im browsing the internet. If he can't make it run that way set the FSB to 100MHz and start jacking it back up a little at a time to get closer to the normal speed.

Tried setting the fsb at 100, still no go. He`s probably going to order a 7VAXP today.

Look Here!

I think there are issues between the Athlon XP series and the KT133 chipset. Better off getting another board. You can go with an ECS K7S5A to avoid having to go DDR and keep the SDRAM.

Otherwise, time to upgrade.

I suggested the ECS K7S5A, but he wants to go ahead and get a faster setup. He read the reviews on the gigabyte 7VAXP, and it sounds like a great board. He also just bought a radeon 9700 :) . He`s wanting the best AMD DDR system availible right now since his board wont work.
