Good Evening All,

I just installed the latest BIOS (4/26/01) for my KK-266, and everything seems great except my CPU now idles at 45C-47C. I haven't seen it go much over 51C under load.
With the older BIOS, it idled at 26C-29C.
Overclocking doesn't seem to make much difference.
I am currently at 10.5 x 145 = 1523mhz.
Core is currently at 1.80V.
Has anyone else noticed this big jump in idle temp???
Any suggestions???

Might want to try the forums at athlonmb.com-they have a Iwill section that I have found very useful.

Well 45-47C sounds definitely more correct that 26-29C. It must have been reporting quite a bit off because 26-29C for a 1.5ghz cpu is REALLY cool.

Two things to remember. First, the in socket thermistors on all Socket A boards are highly inaccurate. It takes a reading of the bottom of the CPU ceramic, not the core. I use a flat thermistor touching the core, and the motherboard sensor readings can be off by as much 5C. The other thing is the new bios apparently doesn't utilize the halt commands to the CPU correctly, but this can be fixed with a program called WPCRSET. Check out this link for details...

Thanks sd for the link...:)

Tes the register 51 change will do wonders for your cpu idle temps.
WPCRSET is a nice little tool
