well according to the wired article they wouldnt have had reason to contact rotten-it was being hosted on an MIT server at the time.

FBI agents in the Boston field office have launched an investigation into the site. They also have served MIT with a grand jury subpoena asking for "any and all subscriber information" about the site, which was initially hosted in a campus dormitory but has since moved to a commercial provider.

MIT said in a letter to bonsaikitten.com's pseudonymous webmaster, a graduate student using the alias Dr. Michael Wong Chang, that it will wait until Sunday to turn over records that would identify him by name.

Rotten dot com took over hosting the site in late 2000/early 2001, so any FBI investigation took place prior to that. If anything had come of that, Rotten wouldn't have the site now.

Allanach said she's not sure if the site is a parody -- and even if it isn't, it should be taken offline because it could encourage people to experiment on their own household pets.

Well all I was saying was that MIT was contacted by the FBI. Its clear that when that happened rotten was not hosting it. I assume the FBI checked it out, disregarded it as a joke (as it is) and dropped the matter. It doesnt matter that they didnt contact rotten.com, they contacted MIT! Of course nothing came of it, Im not disputing that. My point was that you were equating being contacted by the FBI as a serious investigation-which as one point-when it was hosted on MIT-it was clearly was (albeit for a very short time, probably).
