BUFFALO, N.Y. - Five kittens thrown into a frying pan with pork chops and hot oil were recovering at an animal shelter Monday, and the man accused of scalding them was awaiting a court appearance.

The kittens, about six or seven weeks old, were injured Saturday when a visitor threw them into the cooking pan, authorities said.

The kittens suffered slightly burned skin and are expected to recover.

The resident of the apartment had left the kitchen, where he was cooking at the stove, when the kittens were scorched.

"The (visitor) started taking his clothes off, took two kittens, put them in the frying pan with the hot oil and pork chops and began swishing them around," said Charles Loubert Sr., an animal control officer. "Then he threw one kitten on the floor and he took the other one and wiped it off on the wall. Then he put three more kittens into the frying pan."

Police said they anticipated the suspect, whose identity was not released, would be charged Tuesday with animal cruelty.

WTF? I mean, it sounds like the guy wasn't even really trying to maim the kittens...

...I mean, it sounds like he had no train of thought going on...like a retard or something.

Ahh...yeah.. that's some whacked up people in NY. Why'd he take off his cloths? That kinda screams lunatic to me.

but thats fvcked up. how can people do that? especially to helpless creatures.

Do you eat meat? if so, you are just as guilty...

There's a keen difference, one is legal, the other isn't.

I've never heard of eating cats before. I think they don't have a lot of meat on them and all. Dogs on the otherhand are much yummier.

uh...yeah....
major difference there.

He does sound like he's nuttier than squirrel poop, or on PCP or something.

As an aside (since in this case it sounds to me like this was the product of a mental problem rather than a truly deliberate act), I think it's important to really hammer people who engage in deliberate cruelty to animals, simply because it is such a strong predictor of violent crimes against persons, and a clear sign of a diseased mind. A person capable of killing or maiming defenseless animals is generally a dangerous person indeed.

The difference lies in killing the animal before you cook it, for god's sake. Plus, as a cultural thing, we rate cats highly, so it's socially unacceptable to kill a cat.

The more important difference, IMO, is that animals used for food are not deliberately killed in a cruel manner (I will concede that lobsters and crabs, and other shellfish, suffer an awful death, but it's the only safe way to eat them, and all available evidence suggest they are not capable of feeling pain). If someone committed an act of intentional cruelty to a farm animal like a cow or pig I'd be just as concerned.

what about the fact that it's a damn kitten. not a full grown, fat 20lb cat ... a kitten, which probably weighed like 1-2 lbs, and none of that would even be meet.

have you all ever seen a kitten? they are nothing but a hairball and bones. it's pretty fvcking obvious he didnt try to "cook" the kitten to eat it ...

actually i would rate a cow far higher then a cat heck even a dog.

cats/dogs are just pets. though some dogs work so that helps. but a cow can be used for food, clothing, work, shelter and even pets (yes you can have a cow as a pet i have seen it!).

No, see DonVito's post. Also, he didn't seem to be trying to cook them to eat. Read the quotes in the article.

This has nothing to do with cultural differences. You don't think DonVito's post is aimed at adjusted people who look at a cat as a source of food do you? I surely don't.

LOOK AT THE INTENT OF THE PERSON DOING THE ACT.

Tells you everything you need to know.

Are they cooking to eat, and doing it in a humane manner (relative)?
