Apparently the only symbol approved by the NFL is the Nike swoosh.

Look like the anti-religious zealots have invaded pro sports too.

NFL was heavy-handed in fine of Bengals' Kitna

Oh please. They have to wear NFL merchandise for 90 minutes after the game. If he'd wore a "Bubba's BBQ" cap he would have gotten fined too. Get over the "anti-religious zealots" schtick already...
If they were Anti Religion they'd fine players when they point to the sky after scoring a TD or when they meet in the middle of the field for prayer right after the game.

That's probably next!
So you have a Martyr Complex too?

No, but given the anti-Christian fervor of a vocal minority in this country who are attacking every form of public Christian expression, it wouldn't be shocking if they go after religious displays on the football field too.
You don't understand, nothing can be next because there was nothing to start. What exactly has the anti-christian fervor taken away from you?

It it's against the rules, then it's against the rules. The NFL is a private organization, and I have no sympathy...

I think that a lot of people, myself included, are turned off by how sports have been sold out to big business.

The best way to get back at them is to tune out there product.

I personally watch much less professional sports than I used to and I'll probably watch even less in the future.

Do the players have to wear NFL contact lenses, socks, shoe laces, cologne, watches, ties, and band aides 90 minutes after each game?

I doubt it. I'm sure it isn't written in their contract!

Yes, professional sports have sold out but that does not mean that there is a crucade against your precious religion.

Some of the Fund A Mental Case Whacko's thrive on portraying themselves as martyrs!

Not all of us, just the ignorant ones. It's people like this who immediately think that they're center of attention because they're getting targetted when it's for something completely different that lights my fuse. :|

That's fine, but it doesn't mean that the NFL's actions are above criticism, does it? And given the fact that the vast majority of Americans (>90% or so) believe in God, I suspect that Kitna does have some sympathy.

You have a way of conveniently applying rules to follow, and those to not follow. You were all about defending your daughter's school officials for penalizing her because she talked in line during a fire drill. Why are the rules so different now Ripper? Seems to be a clear problem with the rules. Shouldn't there be a consequence? I thought the world was black and white to you? Maybe it isn't in this particular case huh?

Apparently the rules weren't very clear. In the case you sited, the rules were clear.

"Upon finding out about the fine, a stunned Kitna told the media in Cincinnati that he has been wearing the cap for the last several years. Only no one noticed as he toiled in anonymity."

If I were the NFL, I'd be more concerned about players flashing gang signals after touchdowns, grabbing pom-poms from cheerleaders and dancing with them, pulling out sharpies and cell phones on the field, etc.

Why not have licensed NFL apparel that have a cross so players like Kitna, if they so choose, can let others know where they stand?

No way. Terrell Owens does the best post-TD celebrations. Your rant would make more sense if the cross was the only thing not allowed on a baseball hat, but as others have pointed out(and you've ignored), the league requires players to wear NFL-licensed clothing 90 minutes before and after the game during on-air interviews. Now, if you still want to feel singled out, chew on this... This only applies on Sundays!

Wow, jumping from the NFL to Christmas![/quote]

Well, this event did happen just before Christmas!

The question was, what exactly has the anti-Christian fervor taken away from you.

Well, one thing is the expression of Christmas I knew as a child:

"Have you wondered why the public celebration of Christmas is an endangered tradition? Stroll into many retail stores and you will soon learn that most references to ?Christmas? have been eliminated. Instead, what you?ll find is a not too subtle version of censorship that attempts to expunge any association of Christmas with the holiday season. Moreover, you will notice an aggressive marketing approach that substitutes traditional Christmas nomenclature with the term ?Holiday.?"

Christmas is celebrated by almost 2 billion people worldwide. 240 million Americans celebrate Christmas in one form or another ? that?s at least 80% of the population. Unfortunately there seems to be a systematic approach to treat Christmas differently than any of the other holidays we recognize. You most certainly will find products for Hanukah, Kwanzaa, and perhaps Ramadan. Surely, no one would think of renaming the Menorah the "holiday candelabra" ? nor should they. People of the other religions and cultures would never tolerate such revisionism, yet why do we? Perhaps, more importantly, why do they think they can get away with it?

"In most public schools, businesses, and government offices, the mere mention of the word ?Christmas? is a pejorative term that is practically censored out of existence. Paradoxically, many of these institutions have been on a ?Diversity? and ?Inclusion? campaign that celebrate every conceivable culture, language, and nationality. Public schools celebrate ?Hispanic Heritage Month? embracing the emergence of the largest pool of new Immigrants, yet fail to mention that this same group has contributed equally to the growth of the Christian and Catholic ranks. Visit the U.S. Capitol lawn in December and witness the ?holiday tree? in its entire glory. Walk into your nearest middle school or public library and admire the wonderful ?holiday? wreath, tree, or whichever term the powers-that-be decide would be less offensive to those who don't celebrate Christmas.

And if you decide you want to venture into the malls to do a little shopping, you'll discover how the icons and vestiges of other religions are embraced, while the Christmas equivalent is that of giant holiday ornaments, flying reindeer and Santa's village - all with the ubiquitous "holiday" mantra. The examples go on and on and on..."

Just curious why you guys feel the need to dole out the invectives?

I wrote "many of these christians are scary" not just "christians are scary"

and with "these" i was refering to the extremists which include doctor killing pro-choicers, klan members, and the people who want to shove their morality onto other people whther they like it or not.

stop trying to sound bite people to get your twisted point of view across. I have no problem with the people who worship with their friends and family that don't go and harass people with unsolicted visits.

Oh, so "Christian" extremists bother you but other extremists don't?

If you have a problem with the free exchange of ideas and can't engage in a discussion without venom and anger maybe you're in the wrong place.

It can't be good for your blood pressure.
