I honestly still do not like the plan. I would have moved the bathroom the front of the dining room along with the washer/dryer. Other than that, it's good.

Thats the oddest floor plan I've ever seen. What is that space between the kitchen and great room? And why is there a wide hall that only leads to a washer and dryer?
Edit: Will punch export to a DXF file? I'd like to see that floorplan at scale.
And is there a wall behind that row of pantry cabinets?

Agreed... The issue IMO is the location of the door in the kitchen to the deck. Move that door forward closer to the pantry then push the island -breakfast bar back a little and enter the deck from the front of the island. Move the pantry to the space down closer to the w/d.

We are ordering the cabinets on Wednesday. It's been a fun process.

Don't go to HD or Lowes! We went to a place called UBS and hte place has VERY tallented designers to help you out.

Anyways ... the only door move is the passageway between the kitchen and dining room. The fridge will be located near the old passageway opening.

We also went with an island that is 3'x5'. A good decision as 2'x4' would have been way to small.

After everything is ordered, I'll update the images with what we are doing (with exact placement, etc).

I shoulda done this for our home addition. I should post scans of the plans in a new thread. (they already reinforced foundation last week). Physical construction starts in 10 days. So exciting (and waller wrenching)

Trying to figure out lighting. Especially over hte counter. THANK GOODNESS for this place:

http://www.rejuvenation.com/

We will also have some lights over hte sink and do the undercabinet lighting thing. The breakfast bar peninsula though .... right now the plan is 2 cans. I might change the plan to one sconce and one can. I already plan on a sconce for near the entrance to the great room. And one flsuh mounted light for the laudry area.

It's an exciting time!!!!

Cabinets are ordered.

For over the island lighting, I'm considering many different ideas. The main requirment is that these lights need to provide good general lighting and provide good light to see inside cabinets. Keep in mind that we have 7' 6"(80") ceilings. Here are some of the leading contenders:
:: 01 - might be a bit busy and oversized for the purpose.
:: 02 - strong contender
:: 03 - strong conetnder, but probably not be the one
:: 04 - VERY strong contder but might not be good for general mighting. Design might be to focused on spot lighting.
:: 05 - nice but might be to bulky
:: 06 - doubtful. Included mostly for the concept.
:: 07 - Strong contender. love the style. The only issue is that it might be to low once hung from the ceiling.
:: 08 - VERY VERY strong contender. This one would provide exclent island lighintg via down lights and excelent general lighting thatnks to the up lights. This one truely could be it!

That site is bookmarked, catalog requested and THOUROUGHLY clicked through. Redoing our bath and bedroom right now. Some of those fixtures are PERFECT.

Edit: as far as tyour contenetr choices, you're all overt eh board. Some are 2 bulb fixtures others are 6 bulb?!!? You gotta figure out how much light you need there and narrow it down

We need 2-4 bulbs. 6 could work also though. I figure that 150 watts of lighting over the island would be just about right. We'll just use hte appropriate bulbs to get the desired amount of light. Also, keep in mind that alot of those fixtures are made on site. You can dictate the number of lights it has. This being the best example of customization in regards to what we need.

I agree. That site is incredible. We've bought from them before and were VERY happy with the items we got.

I have almost got hte lighting figured out. I need a bit more light near hte breakfast nook/laundry area. The tough part is figuring out what to do over the breakfast bar. We need another 50 watts atleast. probably closer to 100 watts. It has to be on ceiling. And we probably need two fixtures.

It's a fun time!

I worked for about 12 hours straight today on the house. I spent maybe 60-90 minutes eating or taking a breather.

Ripped out a bunch of drywall.

What fun. Got the cans installed!!! Need some parts for electrical before the cans get the done stamp. And the work box for the light over the island is in.

I'm in good shape. I figure it will take about 2 nights to get all the electrical done so the drywall can go up. Still need to frame everything though. Someone elses is getting hired for framing/drywall though. Hopefully that will all start this coming weekend or next week.

Kitchen is almost done .... all that is left is to install the island, and do the trimwork. And of course get the counters bought/installed. Maybe within a month I'll actually have a kitchen with counters and everything!!!!
