The real reason for Muslim hatred is not religious; it is political.

Permit me a couple little history lessons.

Lesson #1 : The overthrow of Iranian democracy in 1950s. Backed by the CIA, rebels loyal to The Shah (remember this) assassinate the democractically elected Prime Minister of Iran. The reason? He wanted 50% of Iranian oil profits to go to Iran.

Lesson #2 : The overthrow of the Iraqi Republic. Backed by the CIA, Saddam Hussein and his fellow Ba'athists instigate a coup that results in him being the undisputed dictator for nearly 30 years. During the 80s, we sell him WMDs, which he subsequently uses on his own population and Iranian troops in their war from 1980-1988. Oh yea, we turn a blind eye to his atrocities against his peoples. We knew about the gassing of those Kurdish villages. We just didn't care because he was battling the Iranians.

Lesson #3 : THe overthrow of the Shah in 1979. The Shah, backed by the USA, had a country similar in oppression to the Soviet Union or Iraq. He has a secret police that basically have licenses to kill. In 1979, Islamic Revolutionists overthrow him and his US backed government. Iraq declares war on this government (after receiving approval from the US). It lasts 8 years.

Lesson #4 : Afghanistan. After backing Osama Bin Laden in '79, we leave Afghanistan in ruins. With no help and no central authority, civil war erupts. Finally, Pakistan installs the Taliban to have a friendly presence in the north.

Now you know why "they" want to kill "us"? It has nothing to do with religion or culture. It has to do with politics and our policies. You think that Bin Laden woke up one day and was like "HEY LETS KILL THOSE AMERICANS IT'LL BE FUN."

Oh yea, we put the Sauds in power back in the 30s. When you meet face to face with the enemy, don't be shocked if you find that it's yourself.

Too true.

With over a billion Muslums in the world I would say you be hard pressed to show how all of them are vile and evil. If you are to judge any group based on the actions of a small extremist minority then no one is safe from condemnation (including ourselves.) Should we label blacks as a criminal race bc they have a high incarceration rate in this country? Jews as elitist xenophobes bc of a few diehard zionists? Xians as bigots bc they used the bible to justify slavery, homophobia, stake-burnings and the crusades?
In most all groups you can prob find redeeming values as well if you care to look. Muslims by all accounts tend to be very charitable and strongly community based, an enviable trait indeed.

That being said, there are serious problems with the way Islam is being practiced now by (seemingly) an increasing number of people. Extremism will only lead them backwards, and its this current aspect of Islam that can be fairly criticised, but the reasons for this are complicated and I do not believe lie solely at the fault of their particular holy books. For the Muslim world to advance and prosper, secularism and moderation need to become stronger driving forces in their culture. This they can only do for themselves, but we must also be careful not to sabotage it by our own shortsighted actions.

Disbelief is worse. Lack of religeon is the root cause of all evil in the world as one hateful atheist who wont apolize has gleefully demonstrated within this thread. 🙂

I am a devout Catholic and I laugh at your statements. Back up your claims that the lack of religion on anyones part has made this world any worse off than the religious zealots who are so quick to defend ANY action they take good or otherwise... in the name of their GOD.

re·li·gion ( P ) Pronunciation Key (r-ljn)
n.

Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.
A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.

Secular humanism is just as much a religion as say, Catholicism. They both proselytize, and they both beg for money.

Of those I trust, secular humanists are not high on the list. Too much of their thinking is based upon relativism. They have no base, no foundation, no core, and are ultimately nihilists.

I used to have a Gene Simmons doll when I was a kid. Which my father railed against since it was "playing with dollls' . He just didn't get it and I didn't care. Kiss was cool!

So by that def. work, hobbies, sex, eating etc are religions. Right. Good use of context.

PS, someone call Bill Gates to inform him he is a spirtual leader. So I guess that would make Linix + AMD a cult?

It's all lies. We have always supported the ideals of democracy and spread it around the world.

Been biting my tongue on this one for hours. OW OW OW OW OW . . . was it anatomically correct . . .OWWWWWWWWWWW.

Gene Simmons is a smug, tone deaf, self satisfied, crashing bore and IMHO, his music really, really sucks.

Your post is very unhelpful. This forum's readers understand Gene's position. Simply stating that something "is just how it is" does not add to the debate. Do you have any analysis? You could at least explain why you believe Islam is evil.

This is sheer bigoted, xenophobic BS. Since when are you a theological scholar? The overwhelming majority of Muslims practice it in peace and have no truck with terrorist extremists. Your statements are analogous to saying Christianity is an "abomination" because of the actions of Catholic priests.

I'm getting tired of your quest for knowledge or understanding or whatever it is. Sometimes faith is the answer. Like when faith told our President to invade Iraq. Or when faith tells me that Islam is evil.

Too true.

If it can be true while leaving out the rest of the story on each of those points, than it is true. If only presenting one small part of each of the actions while leaving out the why is a lie, than they are lies. If only stating one country that played a part while leaving out others is the truth, well you get the idea.

Try basing actions on more than part of the truth.

Could it also be that the Arabs have been lied to?
