Kirby v.s. Dyson

So I have about 500 to spend on a new vacuum. I'm looking at Kriby. I heard some pretty great things. I'm also looking at dyson but it's a plastic vacuum. Anybody have any ideas?????

I have no experience with Kirby's, but do own a Dyson Animal. It's the best vacuum I've ever owned hands down for dealing with a house with two cats and a large dog. Though I did pick it up off of Craig's list for $100 and would never have paid the ~$400+ asking price 😀

I own a kirby and I have to say that I actually *enjoy* vaccuming now that I have it. I do have a very large dog that sheds like crazy. I owned a hoover bagless prior to the Kirby. I *HATED* emptying that thing every time I vaccuumed. It was a PITA to empty without spewing dust every where trying to bang the filter clean.

With my Kirby, I change out a bag every 4 months and no dust to be seen.

Only *real* complaint is that it's built like a tank and is rather cumbersome to drag up and down stairs.

That is the biggest problem that we have with our Kirby at the moment, until it broke. Mind you, we must have got around 10 years of usage out of the thing.

We are also looking for a new vacuum cleaner, but I was also considering that we should get a Dyson, especially because of the aboce highlighted comment.

The obvious answer is Kirby. All knees shall bow in the awesome power and terrible wrath of Kirby. Those who do not show respect shall be smitten and their carcass eaten by rabid beavers.

Spend $100 on a vacuum and $400 on a new hobby so you're not obsessing over $500 vacuums.

Same thing I was thinking. Buy a Kenmore from Sears/KMart and forget the others. We had a Kenmore for 10 years and my wife decided to buy something else. After about 3 other vacuums over the next few years, back to a Kenmore cannister and couldn't be happier. I don't know who makes them (Kenmore is obviously a rebadge) but I (we) love them.

Butler Revolution / Sanyo Vacuum

No longer made.

Not good for plush carpet, but excellent and absolutely quiet for our mexican tile home. We have three cats and this gets all their hair.

I had thought about going to a miele, but they didn't offer really any advantage.

It cost me about $55 4 years ago.

Kirby. Ours is still going strong and picking up much more than any other vaccum we've tried recently even after 10 years of use.

It's absolutely scary seeing what exactly our $150 old Hoover left behind that the Kirby was able to pull up.

It was pulling up pet hair from the previous owners a few years back.

:Q

Hoover Tempo - $64 on Amazon, free shipping, 865 reviews with a 4.5 star average, sucks like Thai hooker on steroids.

If I'm wrong, you're only out $64 dollars. If I'm right, you saved yourself $450.

There is no better vacuum ever made than a dyson. It really is that good. Easy to clean, works perfectly.

They sure are great! Fry's has tons of Dyson refurbs for cheap, too. Pallets and pallets and pallets stacked in the aisles, in the back...all on sale all the time.....at least in both ATL Fry's.

Oh wait, maybe Dyson's aren't so great after all................

Here ya go....Dyson DC14...one of Dyson's refurbs at Fry's, among others.....

The problem with vacuums is they are much like TV's prior to flat panels. In the past people just shopped size and price and/or name brand. Now people are looking at specs, test patterns, etc.

The Kirby, Filter Queen, Rainbow, etc are all high-end niche market machines...there are others out there just as good, but cheaper.

Problem is most vacuum makers know they can get buy selling crap and people will buy it.

Many people make one good vacuum purchase and swear by it being > all.

Being an upright is a downside to me for my needs, they are great to blasting across floors though.

Spilled the dog food container a few minutes ago. Probably a good 3 cups.

Grabbed dyson, took all the dog food up, emptied it. Took MAYBE 2 minutes from start to finish. It really is the best and last vacuum you will ever own. It is JUST THAT GOOD.

It's like a shop vac, combined with a canister vac and a seriously industrial machine. All in one incredibly cheap package. It really doesn't get any better than this. It amazes me every time I use it and if you don't own one, you need to try one. It will be the last vacuum you ever buy. So easy, so powerful, so everything. The perfect vacuum has been found. The better mousetrap has been found and it's name is dyson.
