Kingwin KH-350U 3.5 external HD case 19.99AR+shipping

This is the best deal I have been able to find on a 3.5" external HD case. At outpost.com I ordered this along with the 200GB drive for $70 mentioned in another post. I don't know how good Kingwin is about rebates but we shall see.

They had this local for me in Las Vegas, but I was too lazy to go get it, so now I have to wait for it to come from Ohio or something like that.
One reviewer, I think it was Toms Hardware mentions that it only has a sustained transfer rate of 8mbps and thats "nothing to write home about" but hey, it is faster than most of my HD's except maybe my raid 0 array. Anyhow, it is a simple storage solution for my Dell in the itty bitty case.
Anyhow, I thought it was a pretty good deal.

No fan.

You can see from the pictures plus a reviewer states it is fanless.

Would it help to put one of those hard drive coolers (double fan that mounts on the bottom of a hard drive)
help at all, or since I am assuming this is fully enclosed, would moving hot air away from the drive into other parts of the case make no difference?

It's aluminum so the whole unit would act as a heatsink. The air moving around the outside of the case should keep it cool enough. I wouldn't think that you'd want to use it with a fast drive, but Kingwin's website doesn't say there is a limitation.

I've used a lot of Kingwin stuff in the past and I've always been happy with the products. Well make but relatively inexpensive. I wouldn't hesitate to order one. Personally I'm not keen on the look though.

Why on earth does it say "Can support up to 350GB H.D.D." ?? If you dropped a 400 Gb IDE drive in there, wouldn't it work?

More than likely it would recognize it but you wouldnt get to use the whole hard drive. Or, perhaps it just wouldn't work. As one reviewer notes on New Egg, he had a differn't enclosure that only gave hime 136GB on his 160, then when putting it in this case (and I assume reformatting) he got 153 or so.

Remember it has a chipset and limitations just like a motherboard, its not just some sort of pin adapter and a bunch of wires.
