The BB in my area had 8 boxes with chips labeled "Kingston", and 2 boxes at the very back of the rack with chips marked "32Mx8 DDR" -- no brand name. I went with the "32Mx8 DDR". Sales clerk was helpful but seemed to think I was nuts -- "It's all Kingston, right?" ;)

I was a little apprehensive because I was running my RAM at 374, (also happens to be Kingston DDR2700, bought from NewEgg a year ago). Only other option with my setup would be to underclock the RAM to 300, if the new RAM was not up to snuff.

So far so good! Running at 374, and Far Cry is totally smooth from the instant the maps load now. The difference is really amazing -- UT2004 Onslaught maps as well. All the hitching is 100% gone.

Thanks for posting this deal!

*Update* Ran MemTest86 for 8 hours with 0 errors -- looks like this RAM is stable at 374!

Dual channel memory is just a marketing ploy. I'm running two 256MB sticks of ram as dual channel, one is Crucial PC2100 and the other Kingston PC2700. They've both running at @ 333Mhz for the last few months, stable as a rock.

damn went to 2 nd best buy ..no hynix chips but I did note something of interest the Kingston marked chips at this store ended in a 6..not 5A like mine...I wonder if 6 means 6ns..ie pc2700 ans 5A means 5ns..ie pc3200

I just tested a module that has Hynix "D43" chips on my Shuttle AN35N-Ultra motherboard. Memtest-86 reported 0 errors after 12 passes when it was set to 400MHz (2x200MHz, in sync with the processor bus) with timings set to 2-3-3-3 and voltage set to 2.6V.

It was able to run at 440MHz (2x220MHz) with much higher timings, but it wouldn't POST at 480MHz (2x240MHz).

I'll test another module to see if it can run as fast. If so, I'll try running them in dual-channel mode.

Judging by the performance some people are reporting, I suspect that some of the unmarked/etched off chips might be Hynix "D43" chips. But I don't know of any way to identify them for certain.

Here are my markings again...

markings:

Kingston
V71021
0351 P01
D3208DI1R-5A

Kingston
V71043
0351 P01
D3208DI1R-5A

I went to lakeland FL BB and they had 5 boxes but they had simialr markings except the number after the dash was a 6

I would bet this means true pc2700...and 5A means pc3200???
