Trolling? Hmmm....
Flame war? Ok, sure. No problemo.
First, my apologies to the vets...I haven't done this for awhile, so I'm a little out of practice. It may not be what you've been used to from me in the past.
...I suggest...
I'm totally open to suggestions, even when they come from 55-post n00bs who want to make a name for themselves by calling me a troll.
All bluster, no facts
Yeah, MaxPC is the most blustery, non-fact magazine ever published. I should totally re-subscribe to Windows Magazine...that might enable me to reach computer-knowledge nirvana, tho' probably not at the same level you s(h)it upon.
The max PC article you mentioned is from Nov 2008, I read it long ago, it is now out of date.
Yeah, eight months is an awfully long time. Remember when everybody was worried that a computer they had just purchased would be obsolete in three years? Why most of those reviewed drives are still widely available for purchase is beyond me...
Implying that HDDs are faster than SSDs is simply ridiculous.
Gosh, I really wish that I had implied this. But silly me, I didn't imply it at all. I believe the exact term that I used...more than once...was "patently false". Of course, your definition of "imply" may vary...
I'm not talking about capacity (which is crappy)...
Neither am I.
...or price (which is crappy)...
Neither am I. Wow, didja just notice we share two things in common? We should totally TF2 together. I have a skin to DIE for...
...but purely performance (which is untouched by HDDs)
Wow, you really didn't read anything more than the five links you posted, did you?
You seem to have a personal interest in bashing SSDs
Currently I only have a personal interest in bashing you. And then you can wash my car.
...the links I provided in my previous post are excellent references.
Oooooh, a total of a couple of drives from OCZ and Intel. Yeah, that covers the entire SSD market, and all the others are created equal. Now we can purchase based strictly on cost. YaY!
Why on earth would I be talking about SSDs that are not modern or that are crappy?
First of all, many people consider "modern" to be the last eight to 12 months or so. Back-stepping to say only the L&G applies is akin to a child who gets his first erection and declares that he's a MAN!
But I digress...maybe because...um...you said "For performance SSDs will kill all mechanical drives" without saying that tons of SSDs currently available for purchase either cannot outperform all mech drives, or aren't crappy? Just sayin'...after all, there are people on this board with fewer than 55 posts who might take your statements as gospel truth, and purchase just any SSD they erroneously think would be kick-ass.
The point of this thread is to help the OP find what is best.
Not anymore...you changed the point of this thread. Congrats.
