As soon as Rambus gets there day in court, I see memory prices shooting back up......they are suing everyone who has made SDRAM without there consent, including Hyundai and Micron. Case was supposed to go to trial last week, but has been delayed until March. I think they have a good chance at winning. There is also a glut of memory on the market because of the slowdown in pc sales. Hopefully it will continue.........

I just got 2 of these for ~$70 shipped and thought I was getting a hot deal. My, how 3 weeks time changes that view. May order more at this price. As for Rambus, I'm thinking their chances of winning go down every day, now that documents showing they amended patent applications to cover SDRAM stuff while a member of the group developing SDRAM. Seems pretty illegal to file patents for things being developed by an open group when you are a member. Especially since JEDEC membership rules require informing other group members of patents held or applied for which would lead to licensing requirements on their "open" technology.

Jumpondeals,
Is this the deal of the day or will this price last a few days?

It's $31.95+$5 shipping isn't it?

How do you make a new customer again? Have to have a new card number and new name or something? Does the same address matter?

I believe you are considered a new customer when you use a new cc#. I logged in as a new customer, used the same name as my other account and used a new CC#. Good thing that MBNA Mastercard has an app that will generate new CC#s to be used for each transaction (like the American Express thing).

to qualify as a new customer at buy.com, i believe all you will have to do is register with a new email address. i have done it this way before. :eek:x

also, if you re going to buy a couple of these sticks, it is better to pricematch it with staple and then use the 75-25 dollar off coupon. i have seen the 25 off 75coupon some where a few days ago, and dont know where it is now.

Staples has the exact same ram?

Another thing, the ram's layout (ie. 32x4, 32x64), does this compatibiliity depend on the chipset or the mobo? These Kingston valuerams are 32x64 and I don't know if it works with KT133 chipsets. Anyone know anything?

Just be careful on one thing: RMA the ram if the it has Winbond chips on it. Especially if you overclock.

As of several months ago, you needed both a new credit card # and new email address to attain new customer status.

>>"How low can this go?"<<

It probably depends on how long the Kathy Lee wannabe can keep the children working without food or rest.

Damnit, I got Winbond chips.... should I be genuinely concerned, or does it just suck for overclocking only?

That's my question too, if you get winbond chips, would it be instable if you're just running a normal desktop computer in win98SE with a tbird 900? I mean, I don't do servers or anything, just a home desktop PC. Would winbond be very instable in this environment?

<Gratuitous anti-hot deal check>
Anyone know if these Winbond chips really do suck that bad?

Winbond? :disgust:

RMA it right away. It caused my A7V+Duron+Win2k system to crash 5 times in a row, until my system refused to POST at all.

Kingston has generally been ok memory. I prefer crucial. And, yes, my $30 rebate on the 256MB DOTD came in on Friday 2/23/2001.

The free shipping is only for orders over $100. So you gotta order 3 of these to get free shipping.

Also, can't you just request non-winbond chips at the end of checkout like in the comments section?
