If I were getting a 8800GT I would get one with a non reference heatsink...preferably a dual slot design...even if it is stock clocked, they should OC better.

But you can get some 512MB 8800GTS for around $200 now.

How much better are they going to OC than this? Its already OCed and warrenteed, so dual slot inst really an issue.

Im asking if anything is faster than this for under 200$. Saying GTS is fine, but again this is an OCed GT and will be faster than a stock GTS. Sure I can OC it, but thats not what I want.

no...no it won't. core clock is only 50mhz faster and memory clock is only 60Mhz faster...but the GTS has 16 more stream processors

Ahh thanks. Anand needs to compare same-generation cards in reviews.

8800GTS 512MB is the best card that is under $200 after MIR. :D

Thanks Ill check em out

EDIT: ok what? GT outperforming GTS? http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3140&p=7

You didn't see the 512MB in my post?

First the 8800GTX and GTS came out, and MUCH later the 8800GT and a new version of the 8800GTS came out. We're all talking about the newer 8800GTS which is based on the exact same core in the 8800GT, except with more SP and higher stock clocks. We're not discussing the 640MB or 320MB versions.

When looking at pre-overclocked hardware, keep in mind you can do the same thing, and you can do it with less heat and noise by getting your own aftermarket cooler.

EDIT: I narrowed the Newegg search down for you. These are the cards I was talking about.

Gotcha, sorry for the confusion. The naming techniques could really use some tweaking! I mean, wouldent it of been logical to rename the new 8800GTS to 8850GTS? Oh well :p

I already found a the stream processing filter on newegg. Thanks though.

I see Newegg has an Asus 8800GT 512meg for $135 AR. I'd save $20 and get this card of the Zotac. Then OC it yourself. Pretty much any 8800GT will hit 700mhz and close to 1000mhz on the memory.

20$ is a cheap price to pay for peace of mind for ~2 years.

It would be the most bang for the buck, but the original question involved what would be the highest performing for under $200 after MIR. ;) OC 8800GTS 512 > OC 8800GT 512 and both qualify for the price limit

It takes about three minutes to overclock a graphics card. You do it from Windows. There's no point in buynig a factory overclocked card.

I just saw a BFG 8800GT 512mb available locally in Toronto for $155CDN after a $40 rebate.

I'm guessing they're clearing out inventory for the new cards that are about to be launched.

Actually it's not Anand's fault

8800GT came after 8800GTS 320/640mb (aka G80GTS)

It is reasonable and necessary to compare with them,

because the old 8800GTS 640mb was actually more expensive then 8800GT that time.

And it takes 3 seconds to watch your card burn up along with your 130$ becuse you got one of the ones that couldent handle it.

The point in buying a factory OC card is that you have peace of mind. There actually IS no point arguing with that.

Yeah the card I liked is $154 after MiB and one of the fastest 8800GT out there. Its pretty sweet. Cant get better than an OC 8800gt for 150$ :D

IMO, this 8800GTS would be worth the additional $15 AMIR over the Zotac 8800GT:

If you're looking for value though, you might also want to check out this 9600GT for $112.99 AMIR:

Yeah I agree about the GTS.

I suppose its more nVidias fault than anything.
