Kinect spy

WTF

Dennis Durkin, who is both COO and CFO for Microsoft's Xbox group, told investors this week that Kinect can also be used by advertisers to see how many people are in a room when an ad is on screen, and to custom-tailor content based on the people it recognizes.

Who thought that was a good idea? I'm sure advertisers would love it but once people learned about it, no one would turn on that feature or buy a Kinect if it was an always on feature.

Actual quote:
[Kinect could help the company] “be more targeted about what content choices we present; what advertising we present; how to get better feedback and data; about how many people are in a room when an advertisement is shown; how many people are in a room when a game in being played.”

A yet unannounced benefit of Kinect: TSA can use it to pre-body scan you and your family before you get to the airport, allowing you to bypass those aggravating security queues.

A "WTF" indeed. Hold on....WTF?!! Seriously, someone get this on the front page on Anandtech. This is BS and needs some public backlash!!

Should put 4 or 5 people really close together right in front of the kinect thing and see if you start getting targeted adds for weight watchers or plus sized clothing stores 😀

This 'feature' isn't even close to being enabled yet. If it is ever.

Who cares...I'd rather see ads I'm interested in anyways.

Are you shitting me? It's called invasion of privacy. If you don't value your privacy, great. But others do. And a camera in someone's home that is broadcasting to whoever without the user's consent, is a HUGE invasion of privacy.

Take the blue pill #1781..........Hes not taking the blue pill......why isn't he taking the pill?........ #1781,,, can you hear me? Take the pill

Then don't buy Kinect... You don't invite someone into your home and then scream Tresspassing!!!

WTF are you talking about? No one invited anyone into their home, that's the problem. It is a freakin' video game. I guess since you have a camera on your phone, you are cool with companies turning it on without your knowledge so they can collect ad data. Give me a freakin' break. 🙄
