It's not the latest (the Voyage just came out), but I picked it up on Thanksgiving at Amazon for $99, which is less than 1/2 what the Voyage costs. Reviewers pretty much all say that the Paperwhite is definitely more bang for the buck.

Received it last night, called last night and had them switch my New York Times Blog ($1.99/month) subscription from my old Kindle Keyboard to the Paperwhite and it immediately downloaded. Unfortunately, for some undetermined reason, today's version will not download by wifi. I downloaded it to my computer and copied that to the Kindle via USB, a workaround I would not want to have to do on a regular basis. Meantime, I'm told they will work on the issue and get back to me. I actually spent around 2.5 hours on the phone with various people in Kindle support today working on that issue, really nuts. Amazon is kind of like AT&T or maybe Microsoft in being a huge organization where the left hand just doesn't know what the right hand is doing. However, the CSR's are by and large relatively quite friendly compared to those other organizations, I'd have to say, based on my experiences (some time ago). Lot's of cool looking stuff online and in the firmware, but it doesn't necessarily do what you'd expect it to.

I looked at the phone's information page (in settings, etc.) and it says that the "Space Available" is 3,138 MB free. I don't see how that can be, the spec pages I've seen for the Paperwhite (original and newer version) say 2GB internal memory (my old Kindle Keyboard has 4GB). Don't know what's up with that.

I love the readability of this thing, it absolutely blows my Kindle Keyboard out of the water. I could read on the Kindle Keyboard, but it was much less than ideal. I was still buying mostly old fashioned books. Pretty much the only thing I was doing with my first Kindle was reading the New York Times Blog, which updates with new stories daily. Sometimes I wouldn't check it for weeks, other times almost daily. This Paperwhite, now, I think is a game changer. I might start springing for Kindle versions of books instead or ordering actual printed paper versions! Yup. The only thing I could use my Kindle Keyboard for at this point is its ability to deal with audio books and read books back to me, either over the speaker or out headphones. It's not something I've been doing, but it's a potential use.

Amazon doubled the storage to 4 GB late in the summer:

It's a nice reader. I bought a refurbed Paperwhite 2 about a month ago when Amazon had them for $79 (I should probably see if I got a 2 GB or 4 GB model, not that it matters) and then I also bought the Voyage. I gave the Paperwhite to my wife and have been using the Voyage for a few days now. It is a slick reader as well but to be honest, I think they priced it high.

Thanks for the update/clarification. I think the $79 refurb deal was just one day. I found out about it about 3-4 days later. I would have sprung for it for sure.

You can check your memory by following these steps:

Go to Home Page
Click the menu icon at top right
Click Settings
Click Device Options
Click the menu icon again
Click Device Info

I figured out that stuff myself after I was through talking to all those Kindle people. A CSR this afternoon couldn't show me where to find the SN, and finally had me fetch the box to get it. She tried just about everything to get the wifi download of the NYT blog working, but nothing worked (besides downloading to a computer and passing it over via USB. I didn't mention that to her, it's just a workaround, after all). That Device Info popup includes the SN, Mac ID, etc.

Actually, I think that extra memory may come in handy. I haven't downloaded many books yet, may not, but I think I read that the Kindles can start slowing down a lot, losing responsiveness when the available memory gets low, so I'm glad to have the extra.

Resolution on the voyage makes it worth it. I have both (selling paperwhite). Paperwhite is still a nice unit though.

I haven't seen the Voyage. I should take my Paperwhite to Best Buy and check it against their own Paperwhite demo. That's the only way I'll know if mine is up to snuff. Presumably I can check out the Voyage then.

The Voyage's backlight isn't as uniform as the Paperwhite IMO, but the bezel "buttons" are pretty slick.

Yeah, I saw a post or two making me think that the Paperwhite might be better in some respects. Even backlight is a biggie for me. Now, the bezel buttons I can do without. I often hit my Kindle Keyboard's bezel buttons by mistake. I guess I didn't use it enough to get used to it. Anyway, I don't miss having buttons on this thing and don't mind the touchscreen, and its being recessed a little doesn't bug me either. So far, I'm a happy camper except for the issue with not being able to update the NY Times Blog. They are supposed to be working on it and I think they'll probably figure out a remedy. You'd think that by now they'd have the issues fixed, I'm hardly on the cutting edge here, the PW2 came out over a year ago.

Yeah, if I were a happy Paperwhite owner, I wouldn't upgrade to the Voyage at its current price. IMO, they should've dropped the Paperwhite to $99 and put the Voyage at the $130 mark. In my case, I ordered both just to compare the differences and I fully intended on giving my wife one for an early Christmas present as an upgrade to her Kindle Keyboard.
