Kindle or iPad as an eReader?

Neither...

If your iPad 3 is getting no use, there's a chance you may get sick of using another tablet to do reading.

I had a Playbook, barely used it, recharged it less than a dozen times before getting rid of it. Then I got a Kindle basic, used it for a few books, then left it on a shelf, only plugged it in once every few months when it turned itself on and said the battery was low. Sold that too.

The iPad gets no use because up until now I haven't had a use case for it.

Browsing? Chromebook
Reading PDFs? Chromebook
Gaming? Desktop
Reading Novels? Actual books

I can't very well take enough books to keep myself occupied for 3 weeks 😛

Of course go with the kindle, eink is for reading. But the kindle screen is very fragile. My boy poked it with a nailclipper and made a bunch of cracks underneath the screen. Now if I use thr light the cracks would magnify the light.

iPad is still not the answer. Any Android tablet will do. :colbert:

Sorry, I love android phones but my iPad has been my constant companion during my cancer journey. I binge watch Netflix, play games, surf social media, enjoy magazines Etc. My iPad simply works, no special voodoo, no hacks needed.

Having a device that just works is a god send to me.

Haven't used them extensively, but Eink is far superior to lcd for reading. Depends on whether or not you want to spend the money. If it were me, I wouldn't, but I'm cheap.

I use both extensively. Do yourself a favor and get a backlit Kindle. Your eyes will thank you. Kindle is the BEST for e-reading, it sucks for anything else. iPad will handle the other media consumption duties including light reading perfectly fine.
