Kindle keyboard?

I'm considering a kindle 3g - one of the older ones with the keyboard. Is this needed very much? I'd love to have one - as I have Prime and tons of ready to go PDF books.

The draw on the 3g with keyboard for me is that I hear google maps works usably well. And mono text browsing anywhere on a very low power device is nice to have as a backup.

So does anyone recommend ditching the keyboard (i.e. is it really necessary?)

Google Maps works in the Kindle browser? I honestly never tried the browser beyond Amazon.com once. I bought it to read and only read.

I only ever used my Kindle's keyboard for two things: Searching for books and entering wifi passwords. I can buy books from my phone or computer though, so I'm leaning towards the Touch version since entering wifi passwords is not enough of a reason to want a dedicated keyboard.
